Passenger rear door won't unlock. Urgent help please.

Hi,

The door will not unlock at all, the only way to open it is to reach around and pull the handle.

The fob nor the button inside will unlock it but it does lock on both.
Slight urgency due to it being the door in which we have our baby seat (Baby is due any day now)

Thanks

2003 Range Rover.

there are 2 cables in the door, one connected to the lock mechanism on the inside and one on the outside..sounds like one has broken which means door card off and replace.. ... - .- -.

Sounds more like the lock actuator than one of the cables if the button doesn't come up using the fob or lock/unlock button.
It's still a door card off job though.

I found a couple of units on the Bay of E for £50 including the cables. Wink

Correct. The same thing happened on my old '02 recently. My repair was, for various other reasons, to buy a newer model.

I've always been curious what the problem was, though. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

Haha,

I will have a look over the weekend. (if the baby hasn't arrived)

Will keep you updated if it is something obvious.

It seems the problem is intermittent. It will work one time, lock it and try again and it doesn't work!

Took the door card off but could see anything obvious, could it just be a fault with the main unit in the door?

I've got a similar fault on the driver's door on my FF. Sometimes the door will unlock, sometimes the button just 'twitches' and it fails to unlock. Always locks though. Had the doorcard off a few weeks ago, but I can't see anything obvious either. My plan was idiot-proof ...

^ Same here for my rear N/S door, most of the time it wont unlock... but if I lock and unlock several times in a row it will eventually work.

Looks like a drop of oil might fix it, but when I had the door card off I couldn't see where to put it.

The solution is to buy a new locking mechanism. It is possible to repair by drilling rivets out of the mechanism and replacing one of the tiny motors (which would have failed), but a new mechanism is less than US$100 from memory, note that they are specific to each door and the part number has been superceded a few times. 2003 TD6 HSE, Zambezi Silver, Navy Trim.

Note to all... Once these symptoms start, investigte quickly and if your lock is at fault get it changed immediately...as one day it will deadlock itself and that will be a 10x harder job! You have been warned gentlemen... Thumbs Up

I had a problem with the passenger door.
Sometimes it would unlock sometimes not.
My solution was to gently spray WD40 down beside the pop up button until it dripped out of the bottom of the door. Problem solved, never been back to it in over a year.

Is it an easy job to change it?

I tried this earlier and it seems to have worked a treat.

Locked/unlock loads of times and it unlocked everytime!!! Very Happy
