Many thanks Jpickie, you've answered my question and more besides. Must get a price when my FFRR is in for a service next week.

Thanks for the info oldcro.
Had a look at the installation instructions and the quoted install time of (I assume) 1.9 hours. It'd take me 1.9 days even if I were willing to start pulling my new car to bits to that extent (which I'm not) so off to the dealers it'll be going. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

I thought that would be your response when reading the instructions Baron, let us know what the dealer charges for supply and fitting. Your reply will be my decider on whether its to be stepping in gracefully or climbing in and sliding out like a beached whale. Big Cry

My guess is around £2,300 for supply and fit based on 2hrs labour at £100/hr but I'll let you know what they quote. I'll be asking Peter Vardy (was Town & County) in Aberdeen. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

I'll just add.. I love my deployables. Got them fitted (with some nervousness) when I bought the car. I have to say they awe some. Bling....yes....pose...yes....practical ..heck yes. Thumbs Up

I know some folk dont think they add anything aesthetically but on a white FF, when retracted I think they add a nice silver accent along the length of the car.

I got them supplied and fitted for just under £1500 but then again I had just spent ££££ with them for the car. Shocked

The workshop had it booked as a 2.5 hour job but it actually took them 4 hours apparently.

Sounds like you got a bargain there. I too like to have a sill level accent, particularly on darker coloured cars. I think it adds a pleasing colour contrast.

I'm told I have an independent LR specialist not to far away so I'll be getting a quote from him as well as the Aberdeen franchised dealer. May make interesting reading. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Baron, I was in Peter Vardy's (ex T & C) yesterday getting the first service done and asked for a quote for the supply and fitting of Deployable side steps. The girl serving me gave me a quote of £2170.63 and insisted that included VAT, although I'm not convinced judging my their prices for everything else.

They did by the way fill the engine with Mobil Super 3000 X1 5W-40 oli which does not meet the specified requirements. They even put a (Free) litre can in the car for topping up later. So adding more non low saps oil of the wrong viscosity should help choke the DPF, if it does it will be the first time I'll have had a problem so time will tell.

I have sent an Email to the dealer Principal expressing my thoughts on this matter.

Yes, I think she forgot to add on the VAT as I've been quoted somewhere around £2,500, I forget exactly. Car goes in for its mini-makeover on the 24th; deployables, detachable tow bar and a list of minor warranty issues, although one less now I've managed to pair the heater remote to the car Thumbs Up 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

Well Jpickie, you have learned more than I have about the button in the roof! How does it turn the system off? I find it usually does nothing!

My roof button works like this.......

Keys out of ignition...

Open door, put keys in and turn on ign 2 then hold button for 10secs and the light will come on and the other step will deploy and they will be locked open Thumbs Up

Works the same to lock them closed as well Thumbs Up

To reset you simply lock the car or drive away Thumbs Up

Great feedback chaps, thanks. I'm deffinately leaning towards the deployable ones as like some I'm not keen on the look of the fixed steps but need to provide a step up for my passengers. At 6'4" I don't need them myself but my wife does and I like gadgets so it's looking like it'll be the £2k deployables.

Has anyone fitted them as opposed to having a garage do it? I'm considering this as I like to tinker with my toys but only up to a point. It sounds like there may be significant trim removal for installation of the control wiring which sounds like a step (sorry) too far for me.

Baron hi, fitting deployable steps is very straight forward and if you like fiddling? Its worth doing yourself as you can lubricate the parts as you assemble them (won't be done by a dealer) you will also have some understanding of how they work, if something should go wrong or get damaged in the future Thumbs Up

I have them on mine and the kids/mother in law loves them (as do passers by/onlookers)

I fitted mine with Overfinch side skirts (as these fit inside the skirt and disappear) which was the perfect package IMHO Thumbs Up

Hobbyist, This is how my system operates as best as i have worked out over the past three years. To turn the system on and off as you are asking to do is covered in the second paragraph.

Deployable side step operation

To force the steps to stay out regardless of the position of the doors, what LR call 'roof access and jacking mode' insert the key in the dash and turn to position two, then hold the switch for about five seconds until the light in the switch illuminates continuously then remove the key. The steps will now stay out regardless of the position of the doors unless you drive away or lock the vehicle at which point they will return to their normal function.

If the steps are working and you want to disable them: insert the key in the dash in position 1 and hold the roof switch whilst turning the key to position 2, the light in the switch will flash twice to confirm the system is now off. To turn the system on repeat the procedure but the light will now flash three times to confirm the system is now on.

Hope this help, regards. Jon MY2007 S/C - Stornoway / Jet

I had fixed steps on the 4.2 and they are handy for my daughters and wife (all of them quite short, although the youngest will probably become my height ish 1.8 plus (I'm 1.89)).

I have nothing on the 5.0 and won't put anything on (well not planning anyway) and will use access height when needed as I don't think they help that much. Nice if they are there but not really needed for most people.

I don't think they detract that much (well certainly not on the 4.2). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
