Good idea taking pictures before closing the deal then... is that why you did it/ for 'evidence' of pre-existing faults if you missed them before buying???

Not in that case. I did it because I was excited and wanted a few pictures to look at.

There were a few other issues I had noticed that I did purposely take pictures of, though. Si. <This is my name.

I'd do the same, take the pics and look at them longingly till the car arrives Smile Helpful if it shows "deficiencies" as well, avoids long arguments Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Re: '07 Sidelight Lens Melting

Our car not afflicted with this. However, this afternoon I spoke with a mechanic/technician at the local main dealer and he said this was a known problem that could burn out the unit.

He did say that this problem should not affect 2007 facelift models like yours because it was remedied by then. He said, 'the older ones' were the affected cars.

Mine was registered in March 2007, so not sure if that makes mine an early one or not, but it does build a strong case for the lights to be replaced, I think. I hope. Si. <This is my name.

Hi,

The question I asked was does putting the steering on full lock cause a sidelight to come on that can melt the housing... the chap said words to the effect that the meltdown can happen to any part of the unit but it should not happen on 2007 onward facelift cars but it used to happen on older (pre facelift cars)... yours is definitely a facelift isn't it (terrain response knob in the centre console/ sliding doors near the ashtray etc)?

Don't want to be the messenger of doom, but if the photo's show there was a problem with the lamps before you bought it. Could the dealer not turn round an say you had the opertunity to complain about the damage to the lamps before you bought the vehicle? In buying the vehicle you accepted the damage? 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

This car was bought from a LR UK main dealer and - if the unit was defective as described - should not be for Bellini to remedy less than 1 week into ownership - imo.

There are other reasons why they should not wash their hands (of course they might not) but just one example is the wording of the LR UK approved used pledge:
"Everything from the paintwork to the performance and safety is checked. Should any faults be found with the vehicle, they are rectified prior to display and sale using only genuine Land Rover parts. The inspection always includes a complete engine preparation, a road test and final inspection before the vehicle is professionally valeted."

A professional inspection by a specially trained brand technician/ employee should not be missing such a defect... imo

Not trying to say the dealer should not replace or repair the lamp units (i would expect them replace the lamps as well). Just trying to point out that the dealer could use the pictures as a reason to try and not follow the correct course of action 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Didn't think you weren't arguing against it... have had a recent shocker with my wife's car not having been prep'd as expected.

Whilst I drove the car off the forecourt not having challenged anything, when 'putting my foot on the ball'/ taking full stock after getting home, it started to become obvious that prevailing defects pre-existed my recent possession of the car so I asserted what I thought our rights were... but it has been a long and unsavoury battle.

Other posts indicate that no matter how meticulous you think you are, you only find a number of things after a few days ownership (many people will retort 'you should be more careful' etc. Hindsight is wonderful but if you buy off a main dealer and it's not right, then you've got a right to challenge them until you get what your premium paid for. Shocked

And, to be brutally honest, how many people have actually checked for this 'defect' when inspecting their own potential '07-facelift models? As far as I'm aware, it's not mentioned in any buying guides on this forum, although I do stand to be corrected.

As Ryan and others have said, this appears to be:-

1. A known LR problem with 'early' lights.
2. A recognised fault before sale.
3. With the strength of 1 and 2, I hope an issue free claim.

We'll see what happens when the dealer examines it in a couple of weeks. Si. <This is my name.
