Same camera that I have got. I put mine in the stock location though. I'm thinking of moving it. 2006 FFRR 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

If it's just for hitching up the trailer can't you just get a bluetooth camera and connect to your phone?

Actually, I'd like something like that. Hitching a twin axle trailer is a pain if you're by yourself.

Here is the view. Sorry about the close up of the garage door! Resolution is surprisingly good. Not exactly HD, but it does the job. Not too bad at night either!

Yes, it does need cleaning in the winter, but you can see through a lot of crud... I tend to wipe it at the same time I do the rear lights and number plate.

When the towbar is fitted, I can see about the top quarter of the ball in the cam. Aligning a hitch is easy. I usually back up till its inline and close, then get out to check distance, the reverse the needed distance. Makes hitching really easy.

I also have another cam connector, and a switch for the car cam, so when I am towing I can hardware the cam on the caravan and I have that on an AV input, so when hitched the reversing cam is disabled, and I can see the caravan cam all the time.

I used to have a similar install on my 2003 - the Toys In Your Car kit plugs in line with an existing lead in the boot. You can then but any NTSC reversing camera - there are loads on eBay.

I fed the cabling through the spare wheel well and the existing routing for the tow bar electrics.

The only bit you need to do for yourself is the activation wiring. There's a single wire, that when it gets +12v switches the TV over to the camera input. So basically you need to tap into your reversing light feed.

I can't remember whether that had enough power or whether I needed a relay.

The picture from down there was way better for hitching up a trailer than it is on my 2007 with a factory camera Thumbs Up

I want one for my caravan. Pain in the ass when I'm trying to hitch up when swmbo isn't around

This one looks OK- can be mounted into the black plastic under the bumper with the supplied drill bit

When you say how is it activated, do you mean the reversing cam or the caravan cam? The reversing cam hooks up to the toys in your car loom, and on that there is a feed to take off from your reversing light; when reverse is engaged, the loom gets 12v on this wire and the reversing cam comes on. I also have an inline switch in this wire, hidden in the boot, so I can disable the reversing cam when I have the caravan attached. I want to see what's behind the vcaravan, not a close-up of my caravan hitch!

Re the caravan, the toys in your car all has an av in lead. I bought an NTSC cam mounted on the back of the caravan ( with ir LEDs) and the cable is routed under the caravan and into the gas locker. It terminates in a 4 pin connector with a threaded collar to lock connectors together. I have plenty of spare cable in the gas locker. In the car, I have fitted a matching plug in the near side cubby hole, connected to the av in. When I am hitched, I pull out some of the cable from the gas locker, lead it through the lower tailgate hinge(there seems to be space for the cable without crimping it) and connect the cable up in the boot. I en flick the switch to disable
The reversing cam on the car, and voila, go to TV, choose av, and you have a view behind the caravan.
