Thx Axle for sharing... I have a similar issue and going in on Friday for inspection and get it fixed. When I bought it they had replaced some plumbing due to leakage but now it's not cooling. Hopefully it's similar to your situation but for sure will mention it to them on Friday, may save some time turning everything upside down. Mike.

I've had a condenser replaced on mine (under warranty - luckily)
Service advisor said they have changed quite a lot, some from damage, some units had failed.
Had it, loved it!

At the shop right now... Condenser is leaking, damaged by some small stone or something... Now waiting for the verdict if the garage is paying or not. Was sold with statement they replaced a couple of pipes because they were leaking and was 100% working when I bought it. Since it was -10 a month ago I got cold air out of the ventilation but most likely not from the airco but just the outside air. Fingers crossed... Sad Mike.

So should drive in reverse only then to prevent this from happening... Mr. Green

Going to Spain next week so just want to get this fixed instead of driving with all the windows open for 1800 Km... Mike.

They had to order the condenser so back again on Monday to get it replaced...

So on later models, did they change the location of the condenser or is it still in this vulnerable position? Mike.

Update: they replaced the condenser this afternoon and I will be able to breed polar bears in the FFRR now... However, another problem surfaced: the pressure in the AC is building to 25 bar and the fan is not activating to cool and reduce the pressure. They think it could be a malfunctioning pressure sensor which activates the fan or a loose contact but they have to check tomorrow morning... Run out of time this afternoon.

Any experience with this, does it make sense what they said/think could be the cause of the problem?

Thx!! Mike.

So heard the verdict this evening... Need to replace the condenser fan... Big Cry

Read some stuff on the web that apparently the condenser fan is similar to the fan in the BMW X5 (E53)... Question
Is this correct? Anyone any experience with this or any address for reasonable priced replacement fan?

Thx for your help!! Mike.

Before you go and buy a fan I trust you have connected a wire to the fan +ve terminal on the fan and the battery +ve terminal and checked the fan is adequately earthed. Wink
If the fan doesn't then run, definitely new fan needed. Thumbs Up

Yup they did test all possibilities but the fan is just not moving... The pressure sensor is also sending the signal but apparently the module which translates the signal into what speed the fan is suppose to turn is not functioning anymore. Apparently this is one with the fan so if the module is kaput then you have to replace it completely, doesn't come separately... Unfortunately... Sad

Got a first quote on a replacement which is about Euro 800 so started looking on the web and read an article of a guy in Australia who replaced it with the BMW part used on the X5 for a lot cheaper... Downside it didn't stated the part numbers so trying to figure that out or at least an address where I can get one a lot cheaper then Euro 800 Big Cry

Thanks for your response, appreciate it!! Thumbs Up Mike.

The fan has a permanent 12v supply and is activated by signals from the ECU through a 3rd wire. It is not possible to test by connecting it to the battery. I had a similar situation where the fan wouldn’t start and the freon pressure kept going up. The sensor was OK, the fan could be activated with the testbook but it just wouldn’t spin when required… Of course the service guy said this was normal, but when it was very hot outside, the air conditioning kept stopping… I decided to fit a different fan, a simple one with just on and off and not 900 different speeds and that is started by a relay commanded by the pressure sensor… Total cost of operation, about 50 EUR...

i'd double check the connections to the fan Mike, its possible that when the garage peeps fitted the condenser they could have dislodged the wiring somehow.. ... - .- -.
