Now that looks really good. Out of curoisity did they stay looking that good for very long? I wasn't sure if I'd need to get them professionally painted and baked on for it to last. If it worked well then I'll probably give that a go. I guess if I make a total mess of it I can buy some stick-on covers!

Thanks for the photos, very useful.

Steve.

It was not me but I read about it at http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/viewtopic...es#p283070 and it seemed like a really good job.

Thanks, I think I was just lucky to find one in my favourite colour after much hunting around (and looking at basket cases).

Reckon I'll give the handle painting a go when it gets a bit warmer, I'll post some photos on here once I've done it.

One final question - are the handles, er, handed? I'd still consider swapping the n/s and o/s handles with each other if it's not too difficult because the underneath and outside faces are perfect, it's just the tops that are worn...

Steve.

Hi Scotty,

Must admit the rubbing strips were a nightmare! Yes, they are stuck on with mega sticky double sided around their edge (about 10mm wide strip all the way round).

I managed to get them off by heating up slightly with a hot air gun, getting a blunt knife under the edge (watch the paint!), then carefully peeling them off. You have to be careful because you may damage the plastic door bottom finisher that they're stuck on to - it flexes quite a lot!

Then you're just left with a sticky mess to peel off millimetre by millimetre - I used fingernails and white spirit on a rag so I didn't damage the paint and it took absolutely ages, following up with a good polish. Luckily the paint was perfect underneath, I'm guessing they were fitted from new. There must be a better way to get the sticky off though...

Have fun! Very Happy

They just stick on with 3m tape Scotty i bought mine from Shields years ago and stuck them on, only reason i put them on was because of the Censored that bang your door in car parks .............

Probably if i took them off i would need to do a bit of t-cutting to bring the colour back .......

Right, I've made a decision and have just ordered a set of the plastic handle covers and some genuine Bonatti Grey spray paint and lacquer. Decided this would be easier than spraying the originals on the car - wasn't totally sure how I'd get to the back of the handles.

Will let you know how I get on...

Hi Steve, where did you get your covers from, are they just in primer or finished in the original colour.
Many thanks.
Stewart.
