Not used a drop of oil...is that normal?!

I've had my car getting on for a year now and it was serviced by Land Rover the day I picked it up.

I've probably done about 13,000 miles in the past year and have never needed to top up the oil level.

Given that it's getting near annual service time, I checked a few things like tyre treads etc and once again checked the oil level. It still doesn't seem to have used a drop. The level is still bang on.

The car is a 2007 4.2 S/C - is that normal? I've never had a car that doesn't seem to use any oil.

Mine doesn't either, the oil just turns darker over time. In most cars there is always a little bit of petrol going into the oil (piston rings, valve seals) that then enters the engine oil making it seem it doesn't use any. Same way some of the engine oil goes into the combustion chamber and is burned there.

LPG cars don't have the petrol mixing and therefore show the oil usage better. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Its a similar situation with diesels but the situation can really catch out the unwary. The oil in the sump becomes so diluted with diesel that the thinner mix finds its way past the turbo seals & you have a runaway situation so
switching the engine off makes no difference. Shocked
With a manual vehicle you might manage to stick it in gear & with your foot hard on the brake stall the engine but that only works if the clutch holds together. In an automatic your goose is cooked, simply stand well clear & await the sump running dry, at which point there will be a very expensive bang & a new engine is required. Whistle

Isn't life so very full of surprises Bow down The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!
When women say fine a mans in deep doodoo as fine has so many meanings.
