in the menu there is a bightness settings you can adjust manually , that long since i used it i would have to go back out to the car to tell you the exact way of doing it ====================================

Thanks - I hunted around, but couldn't see anything obvious (and nothing was mentioned in the manual) - so back to the car later to check ... |

If you are using auto headlights, for some reason the screen is very bright, and slowly dims over a few minutes. You have proved this by using the rheostat to dim the instrument panel.

Found it thanks - just surprised that it's a manual adjustment rather than dimming automatically when the lights come on !

Mine automatically dims when I turn the lights on. The manual brightness is just to tailor it to your personal preference as to how bright you want it. So basically, if you wait until dark, turn your lights on, then manually adjust the brightness to the level you want at night, you shouldn't need to adjust it again. If there is indeed an issue with the auto-lights option not triggering the dimmer properly (I don't use them so never notice) then obviously what I've said will make no difference in those circumstances.
