What jack

Yesterday a big @ss nail got into my rear tire and it deflated quite rapidly (thanks to the TPMS I noticed it before damage could occur to the sidewall). Since my original jack failed dismally shortly after getting the car, luckily not with the full weight on it, I got a Landcruiser jack (or so I was told). And of course that was not sufficient for jacking up the car to lift the tire off the road (in the concrete parking garage so superflat). So now I am looking at getting a 3 ton trolley jack so I won't get caught out again. However what lifting height should I get as a minimum taking into account that it may be on a "bad" surface here. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thats with the 2nd stage not at full reach either but enough in extended mode to get the rear MTR a cm off the ground for a quick swap over Smile

They aren't light though and i have to keep it upright in the car but thats not a big problem really and i am going to be asking them about it. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Hi, I have got a merc sprinter van jack in mine also, Its very good.

It easily extends far enough to pop the wheel off, and is very sturdy, i haven't got round to replacing the top piece with the correct bmw style one, but the merc style one does fit in the sill jacking points slightly diagonally.

I have however heard that it wont fit under the sill if the tire is flat and the suspension has dropped. (but if that is the case ill be getting her recovered)

I've got someone trying to get a Sprinter one here first. Otherwise I will go for a "standard" bottle one and a block of hard wood (easy to get here!) or a small trolley jack (3t). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Make sure if you get a trolley the reach is sufficient to lift.

I have a 3t high lift one which seems to work ok, but my 2t doesnt come close. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

I use an old Land Rovery Discovery jack & it works a treat, nice & stong, good height & weight ability. Very Happy The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!

I noticed a bottle jack in the engine bay of my mates Discovery. Why couldn't they have done this with the FFRR?

The bottle jacks were only fitted to coiled Disco's.

If his was airsprung then he should take it out if it ever goes to visit a dealer as they recalled them for the scissor jacks in those models due to a safety concern Rolling Eyes FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

RAC, AA, ADAC, ANWB, AAA etc. don't really operate in Nigeria Smile So one has to find another way Smile Currently the boys are hunting for a bottle jack (Sprinter). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I've searched in vain, but I'm sure that I someone mentioned that you could:
- go to off road height
- place an axle stand underneath that corner
- select low height and the wheel then lifts off the ground

doesn't that remove the need for a jack completely?
