Luckily the warrantee is still valid so it's off to the garage on Monday morning Big Cry

The damn thing is working normally again, I've had the errors cleared to see if it happens again, I may have a full leak under the bonnet so that's one to get checked out next..... Shocked

My service history shows that my car has had 3 boxes in 30K miles. The last box I had lasted 13K miles (just out of warranty Big Cry ) .

I'm hoping as the cars get older the cost of replacing the gearbox will come down, as £2K every year or so is to much...

They must clean out the cooler and pipes, otherwise it will keep failing.

Ashcrofts do a product called Dr Tranny (an automotive cleaning product, not a strange porn film). http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/in...ductId=181

When the box comes out, just connect to the pipes and let it clean through. 10MY TdV8 Ipanema Sand

Mine's done nearly 50k since a rebuild (done by the previous owner). No probs yet (famous last words) despite lots of towing.

Third time my gearbox has let me down in 20 months now (33K milage) It's not funny anymore (£4K in repairs and servicing) Big Cry

I'll be taking my car elsewhere to be fixed, I know the GM box has it's faults but have lost confidence in the garage I use, if (when) it fails, if it's out of warranty I'll find another garage.

On that note anyone had a good experiance with the repair of the GM box, could recommend a garage? Cause it's only a matter of time until this fails again...

Im in your neck of the woods and im interested in who you have used for the work ?

I been deliberating over getting the gearbox oil changed for a short while and have made arrangements for it to be done in the next few weeks at a 4x4 specialists. Im terrified of the gearbox failing and am interested in knowing where to go and how much it will be costing me if / when the inevitable happens Rolling Eyes

I've got to say - this seems like poor refurbishment work. Everyone knows the GM box is a weak point but they don't break every 12000 miles or anything like that.

The only way to really resolve these issues is to replace the worn clutchs and TC and use the upgraded sonnax valve block.

I'd also reccomend the ECU upgrade offered by a german company i believe. It will help reduce stress on the clutches and TC by allowing earlier lockup and less slipping.

Just my tuppenth and its not a cheap job even if done DIY but when your spending £2k its gotta be worth it surely. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks for the heads up, Ive logged that firm in my phone Very Happy I would ideally prefer using someone closer to home just in-case of any snags after the job was done., but if long distance is the better option then so be it.

There's a wealth of info spread all over this forum about this gear box and its issues, its been very informative for me and im sure others the same, it would be a great idea if it could be consolidated for reference like some of the articles in the wiki Thumbs Up
