You can enable instant MPG from the hidden menu on the binnacle - but it only shows it on the binnacle and is a bit of a mission.

I reset Cons1 at every fill and leave Cons2 untouched. This way, I see what I'm getting from a tank and what I've achieved since the car was new. Cons1 is the same as I see on the LCD. There is no 'instant' MPG on a TDV8 unless you keep pressing the reset button every few seconds. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

and you can edit the computer readings you see in the binnacle by pressing the indicator stalk button and holding it until the Nav screen changes to show all the options = NB This is for the touch screen interface. Discovery 4 HSE

leave cons1 and cons2 untouched for long enough and they both show the same! Not a lot |

I've noticed that, both of mine have evened out at a whopping 15.6mpg, good job it isn't a daily driver! 2006 Mercedes CLS
