Won't start! What's happened?

Yet another problem and I'm beginning to get a bit p****d off with this motor. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I disconnected the CD changer and tried to get the Intravee to load it's new firmware, and during that time (20 minutes or so) I had the ignition switch on it's first setting so that power would be getting to the Intravee. Having failed to get the firmware to download, I gave up for the day and went to start the car, but nothing!

All the lights on the dash are blazing away like Blackpool illuminations, and I've put a multimeter across the terminals and the battery's ok (it's a new one anyway). Sometimes the key won't turn at all, so I have to take it out and try again, but at the moment it just will not fire, not turning over, nothing (tried a jump start too and still nothing). There is lots of clicking and whirring going on behind the dash so something's amiss!

Any ideas anyone? Cheers

Greg

Are you sure all the cables are connected properly again ?? Try the battery disconnect procedure in the Wiki and the lock to lock steering once it is reconnected. Just to be sure. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Thanks ebajema for the tips.

The only cables I have disconnected were the two out of the back of the CD changer, and they are now in the back of the Intravee; nothing else has been touched.

I'll have a go at the battery disconnect procedure as you suggest and see if that helps. Cheers

Greg

With the FFRRs (and lots of other modern cars with lots of ECUs in them) this seems to happen a lot, even small stuff done to the audio in this case can "upset" some of the other electronics. Lets hope it is nothing serious. Also check the fuses, just to be sure. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Flat battery! Embarassed Embarassed

Well, not entirely flat, enough juice to display dashboard lights, but that was about it. Fully recharged and up and running again. Smile

I can't believe sitting in the car for 20 minutes with the ignition on setting 1 would be enough to nearly flatten the battery. Didn't think that having the Sat Nav on whilst I was trying to program the Intravee would drain so much juice.

Shan't make that mistake again Wink Cheers

I nearly bought one of those battery boosters last week and thought no, I'll never need it. Guess what's on my ebay shopping list now! Wink

I had read on the forum there was something about a heater resistor which can cause battery drain - need to look into that too when I get a chance. Cheers

you'll probably find that if the battery is over 3 years old then you might want to consider getting a new one..the fullfat is very power hungry and eats up battery's quickly.. ... - .- -.

Yep. I was literally sitting in the passenger seat 20 minutes trying to upload the Intravee, the key was at 1st ignition setting so the Sat/Nav was on, but nothing else (the passenger door may have been on 1st latch so the interior light could have been on). But even so, I am still surprised it lost enough juice to prevent me from starting the engine.

Might have to run some tests over the weekend to see if I there's something untoward going on. Cheers

i always suggest checking you have the obd cover shut as when open this apparently draws current..but with the cold weather we're having the battery was probably not 100%.. ... - .- -.
