Are you planning on selling this privately in six months or are you planning to get shafted by handing an extra £5k commission to a dealer?

That could influence the choice.

I'm sure lots of people wanting the bling at a cheaper price will love the 3.0, if they can get finance on it.
People with money will gravitate more towards the 4.4 IMO. So if selling privately I'd go for that.

Personally I think we'll all say 4.4 cause that's what we have & are used to - Men & sizes....ahem...
Why would any of us driving a 4.4 consider a meagre 3.0 L Laughing

I would guess many first owners of the L405 will already be RR owners/drivers so perhaps why the V8 is outselling the V6. It'll be a year or so on, providing there are no usual reliability horror stories, when other marques get dropped and many will opt for the smaller engine if they move into a Range Rover. No matter whether you have the money or not, it's quite a saving between the 2 sizes and big enough to matter.

The simple answer is if you don't want to loose money for 6 months driving, go buy a 2nd hand citroen pug Thumbs Up Laughing

You may even be better off asking a rental company if they'll do a short term lease so at least you'll know what it's going to cost. Even with your discount, you will loose Big Cry

All the V6s have belts (front and rear).

And they are not cheap to replace, £400 at an indy i think for the D4/SSRR but count on a lot more in the FF as I bet they cram the engine in some stupid way to make it hard and unlike the disco if the engine goes pop you can't just pop the body off in a few hours and make the job that much easier, the engine will need dropping out Sad

The 3.0 V6 fitted to Disco/SSRR's does not fill me with confidence when you look at the problems they suffer and how many go pop, with no spare available your choices are,

1. Get the biggest tub of KY possible and let LR fit a new engine for you
2. Get a smaller tub of KY and find a good used engine somewhere.
3. See sense and get the V8 Smile

Sticking with the 4.4 and its chain is the better bet for reliability and easier resale if not value retention.
And god the hybrid version will be fun! How many people will class themselves as guinea pigs when it comes out and has god knows how many issues?!? Cold climates and drenching's could be fun as well..

Strangely the engine fitted to Pugs/Cits doesn't suffer as many failures as the JLR vehicles fitted with the same engine, although it produces a bit less power, I ponder why they last longer! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

This thread has evolved into something it was not intended to be.

The question was SDV6 or SDV8 if going to resell in 6 months.

The long term reliability has absolutely nothing to do with above question.

note: However I would point out that the SDV6 has reached 400,000+ in several examples with little more than regular servicing and is now fitted in nearly every new D4 & Sport that is sold but thats....

For another thread Thumbs Up
