United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver
iPod connection idea

In my 2007 Vogue SE I can easily listen to my iPod in via the Aux 3.5mm stereo socket (think only applies to SE models as the Aux inputs are for rear screens)

A cigarette lighter USB socket and an iPod USB/3.5mm/30 pin connector lead like the one in the link below means it can play all day.

However, I don't like leaving the cables from the centre cubby to the Aux input on show - someone might mistake my 5 year old iPod for something worth nicking!

It doesn't look too hard to add a 3.5mm socket inside the centre cubby, piggy backing the existing Aux panel 3.5mm jack wiring.

Just wondering if anyone has done this? Hardest part presumably will be taking the trim apart to reach the Aux 3.5mm jack wiring.

Any advice appreciated! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Think someone has already looked at this and found a multi-plug type connection on the back of the Aux-in panel. May be do-able, but not as straight-forward as you'd hope.
Can't remember who it was, sorry
Had it, loved it!

I have done this.

I bought a fag lighter USB socket and wired it into the back of the fag lighter in the cubby and wrapped it up so that it could be stored in the space under the centre console. I then connected an Apple USB cable and drilled a hole for it in the bottom the ash tray holder in which I have fitted a holder for my iphone. The AUX cable is fed from the rear socket, back under the centre cubby and also feeds up though the bottom of the ash tray holder to my phone.

When not in the car, the cables fit neatly round the bottom of the phone holder, recessed in the ash tray holder.

I have also done a variation on this theme by fitting an additional Aux socket in the centre console which is wired directly to the Aux input panel in the rear. I had an old griffin itrip which i use for powering the iPhone and getting the audio output from the dock connector. The aux panel can be removed by unclipping the lower plastic trim with the air vents in it and then from memory there are four screws holding the panel to the rear centre console then it just drops straight out. I did not try to splice the cable to the panel as it is a multi wire Alpine cable but instead opened the aux panel up and soldered the wires directly to the board. It all works well and got rid of the trailing wires.
