Help - Won't start

Hi All, I'd hoped my 1st venture onto this forum wouldn't for this but my RR (53 plate TD6) let me down this morning. Big Cry

The key refused to turn in the ignition this morning. It was like the dead-lock in the ignition was stuck on. I tried re-locking & unlocking it using the central locking a couple of times but it still wouldn't let me turn the key. Any ideas what's up??

Your battery is flat.

It wont have the power to let you start/unlock the ignition.

I had this for a month on and off if left more than a few days, New battery solved it!

Sounds like yours is on its way out too Confused TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Ta. will check when I get home tonight. Had a flat battery a couple of weeks ago but it let me turn the engine over then. (not even getting that far this time.)

I have a battery conditioner hooked up to my Lotus so will put that on it over night & check the belt etc.

It seems the cold weather has caused a lot of battery issues for a number of members and the advice I think everyone would echo is, if your battery starts giving you problems, you can bet your last pound it won't get any bettter.

The sooner you replace the battery the better off you and the car will be. It's the only real fix. Thumbs Up

Thans to both of you for the advice.
the car had been sitting for a week without use and after it was on the battery conditioner for a few hours it fired up. I took it for a good run to get a bit of charge in it and it started fine this morning, so looks like it's getting charge from the alternator. wiil have to get a new battery in it this wkend.

As RRUK's post your best replacing it or you'll end up paying for fault codes reset like I've just had to do.

It's worth checking the voltage, with the engine running. It should be around 14V, even with accessories on. Although if I load everything up 4 heated seats heated screens, steering wheel, blowers, lights etc it drops to below 12V at idle, but picks up to just over 13 over 1000 rpm.

As others have said, its more than likely the battery, the TD6 is a big old lump to turn over so get a decent one.
