Fuel Pump In the tank TD6

Has anyone had the diesel tank fuel pump fail, if so what were the symptoms , im having trouble with a fuel injection system fault and my indie thinks this is the problem, Current Stable:

Had mine go! Sad

Basically it would struggle to rev over 2000rpm an cut out if i tried to put a decent amount of power down as display a fault.

The pump has just had enough and wasn't able to provide the secondary enough which would then suck air in as well which was fine for light throttle as the air would self bleed out through the system but when power was needed it would suck the air in to Sad

If you look in my previous posts I replaced the outside tank pump first as I thought it was this and it didn't fix it Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

I understand that it is a nightmare to do, fingers crossed for you. My external one went six months ago, and luckily the tank one was ok. The mechanic (specialist with Land Rovers) said the tank one is usually very reliable as it only works to balance the fuel across the tank. Tom

hi you can do two tests
1 electric, if there are problems at the pump with a tool or similar tool should alert you iid error
2 mechanics, with a pressure gauge to check the flow rate of the pump (bar)

The tank is quite easy to access. Removing the back seat is about the hardest bit as it is so damn heavy, but after that, fairly straight forward. There are inspection covers in the floor, remove these then there is an inspection plate on one side of the tank, and the plumbing and electrics in the plate on the other side. Undo the plug and hose clamps, then slide the hoses of the barbs - this is a bit fiddly, but once off, the plate, pipes and pump come straight out. The pump is then easy to change on the bench.

If you have a few basic tools and a couple of hours, give it a go. Thumbs Up

I had my in tank fuel pump replaced on my TD6 just before xmas.

My symptoms were fuel injection error followed shortly by the engine cutting out. This would only happen when it got down to between quarter and a third of a tank of diesel left. Funny thing is the car would restart after a couple of minutes of letting the pumps prime and get me to the nearest fuel station to fill up. I also noticed that a couple of times when it was low on fuel that the car would struggle to start before I got the fuel injection error and engine stopping. but the car ran perfectly if I kept the fuel tank above a third of a tank.

I was lucky and got a nearly new pump off the bay for just over £60. When the car went in to have the pump changed I took a look in the tank as it was down to about a third of a tank, the side the pump fits on (Drivers side) was pretty much empty, while the passenger side of the saddle tank was full to the brim. The inside of the tank was totally spotless so I know there was no contaminants. It was just the siphon part of the pump was not moving fuel across to the drivers side part of the saddle tank. Anyhow it took just over an hour to fit and since then I have run it to under 20 miles range left and its been fine.

I had rough running and would not rev over around 1800rpm and assumed it was an injector or fuel pump, but it turned out to be the fuel injector wiring loom that had failed (independent loom that just plugs into the rest of the electrical circuit). Turned out to be a relatively cheap part in the end @£58 + vat if I recall which didn't seem bad for the item I was getting. Steve

Hmmm, I wonder if this is what is up with mine.
Mine goes into limp mode when going around a particular lefthand uphill corner with power on. If I feather the throttle then it kicks back in and all good.

When my loom failed , I got no warning messages at all, the car just ran very rough (I was about 20 miles into a 60mile trip home when it happened so I nursed it home). Steve
