Sounds like the engine breather needs servicing/replacing. |

It's got a receipt for the new vortex style crankcase breather so that should be ok, are there any other breathers, could it be a head gasket or even pressure coming back past (worn) rings? Worried now after a search on google! |

Just to be sure, take the engine breather out and check the hoses as well. The breather may have been changed but that doesn't mean the hoses are clean, they could have clogged up although it is interesting that it happened just when you were fiddling with the EGR. Thanks ill check tomorrow, I'm not sure but it might of been doing it before I cleaned the egr, where are the other breathers to check are connected? Could the seal under the filler cap just be leaking as its not in the best condition and its just a very small leak hence quite a lot blowing out, I'll take the oil filler cap off when the wife gets home and see how much comes out with the cap off |

Try to find the workshop manual online. For the 2002-2005 model it is available as PDF, quite big. It shows all the hoses etc.

I've just been out and checked when my wife got home so the car was already warm, I couldn't see any smoke escaping with the cap on like earlier but when I removed the cap with the engine running there was white smoke coming out not excessive, bit like a kettle, it's a white colour, I removed the dipstick, there's no smoke/oil coming out of there |

White is probably water vapour, if it is a small amount (thin wisps) I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it is steaming like a steamtrain smoke stack you have issues MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

There's a bit more than I would like, I will check the breathers tomorrow and pop to the Indy and get them to take a look, could it be a head gasket or worse? I thought the engines where bulletproof and it was everything else that went wrong lol, it's on 97k miles with full sh with oil changes in between :s |

I just done all my 4.4 cyclone / condensor and pcv. I know yours is td6 but it sounds the crank case ventilation is similar. There are a total of 4 hoses that need to be checked as you will discover when you search for it. I also discovered that as well as the cyclone / oil condensor being solid, so were the 2 smaller hoses that are not as easy to get to as the two bigger top ones, although by no means impossible. Just kneel up ontop of your engine. You'll end up with a sore grubby forehead after bending over leading against the bulkhead whilsts accessing the two smaller hoses.

That sounds like it could be beyond my capabilities, do you know what section of the online manual it's in? Cheers |

Do these pipes run from the crankcase breather ie at the back to the left of the engine? Thanks for everyone's advice so far! |
