Re-fueling problem... Guess what?

So about 4 weeks ago I picked up my FFRR and the first time I tried to fill up the fuel tank it took me 15 minutes... Since it was dark and didn't have a flashlight I could not see if anything was blocking the fuelpipe but had to take it back to the garage anyway since they mounted a detachable towbar (swan neck) instead of the one which you can change the height.

Finally today got the towbar switched which is much better for my horsetrailer... Was a difference in height of 8 centimeters so that didn't work well... Anyway, they started looking at the fuelpipe and, like I had already discovered in the mean time, some smartface who owned the car before me had jurked out the fuelhose when done and broke off a piece of plastic at the top inside of the fuel opening. This piece was stuck about 30 centimeters deep at the first bend to the right... Had to take off the wheel, the plastic protection in the wheelarch to get access to the fuelpipe, etc....

Long story short, after a couple of minutes there comes out a piece of plastic of 6.5 by 3.5 centimeters... Shocked
It fitted exactly the part which had apparently been broken off from the plastic part on the inside of the opening. Makes me wonder how smart this guy was to be able to break of this piece of plastic and then just let it sit in the pipe drastically reducing the amount of fuel to flow freely while filling up the tank. He must have noticed this everytime he was filling up the fueltank, the safety device in the hose constantly being activated as if it is overflowing and standing there for 15 minutes... Which planet did he came from... "F Censored "

The positive thing was that I could see the FFRR at places I hadn't seen before and it all looked very good, also clean behind the plastic cover in the wheelarch, no signs of rust or anything, etc. Thumbs Up I think the mechanic got a little bit crazy of me standing behind him looking over his shoulder the entire time but I just wanted to make sure they would get it out and not push it forward into the tank.

On my way back filled up the tank and guess what, took me about 3 minutes... Very Happy Mike.

Well at least this is a "cheap" fix from a FFRR point of view. The former owner is still a big eikel Wink

Good to know you don't have major corrosion issues, I remember some of my older cars in Holland were a nightmare (subframes completed rotten etc.).

Good luck with the car !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

He is indeed... Laughing

Yeah, feel lucky so far and read a lot on the forum about all sorts of problems from which most costly as well. This actually didn't cost me anything outside of time and fuel to drive to the garage again. In the end I learned something as well how to dismantle parts of the car...

Stay safe!! Thumbs Up Mike.

Good to hear there are still good garages in Holland that treat their customer decently Wink

We are keeping a low profile here, don't go out if not necessary in the current situation. I hope security is stepped up soon (as they did in the past when this happened) and things go back to "normal". It is a bit sad to see that this seems to happen over and over again, security (checkpoint and police presence) goes down, crime goes up, security goes up and crime comes down. Very cyclic phenomenon, my solution, just keep security high and no crime will come up Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Hear what you're saying... They always try to balance cost versus risk untill something happens then the cost is not an issue and then after a couple of weeks or months they want to cutback the budget and the cycle starts again. You're actually in one of the most risky places for kidnap risk so keep your head down and stay home, sit in front of the FFRR and enjoy with a beer... Cool Mike.

Good to know that the top section of the fuel filling pipe can be accessed pretty easily with Wheel & Arch Liner removed Thumbs Up

Yes, was relatively easy although we were afraid we had to dismantle more when we started. Once the arch liner is out you can unscrew a couple of bolts holding the plastic fill pipe in place, then unscrew a clamp at the bottom where it is attached to another section and you can take out the entire fill pipe up to the fill cap... Was pretty happy we succeeded, I guess in total about half an hour to 45 minutes in total when we started and to put everything back in place. Mike.

We have a very nice pool area and the kids love it there, so no reason to go into town much Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
