I can't help with your question scarey, but can I ask why you changed the valve and what was involved?

my steering was getting heavy on slowing for corners and roundabouts cos the valve could not cope with the sudden speed change and after searching the web and talking to a LR mechanic it was diagnosed to be the valve..this valve regulates how light/heavy the steering is at what speed the RR is travelling at...
very easy to change, take the off side wheel off and its there in front of you , undo two bolts and replace..cost of valve ,about £60 inc... ... - .- -.

Not specific to PS fluid fella, but a past experience taught me to only ever use the correct specification of lubricant. Sure it costs a bit more but I look at it in terms of the uplift in cost.

Take proper spec Castrol for the Wife's XF. Only available from Jag and 12 quid a litre. BUT. Compare the cost of another premium oil as being about half that. With the required 6 litres it comes in at about 30-40 quid in uplift which, compared to the potential issues with using a lesser spec is about the square root of sod all.

Some say that Oil is Oil. I usually answer by telling them to fill their autobox with GTX 20/50 and see what happens.

Sometimes, saving 40 quid is a truly false economy. Lubricants, brakes, tyres etc all fall into that "Sometimes" for me.

I have a 2005 s/c and can not find any record of power steering fluid changes over some 145k miles. Whilst the steering seems generally fine, I have noticed some heaviness and the odd change in feel. I tested the fluid which was dark brown and smelt like burnt toast.

Therefore, I invested in 3 litres of the manufacturer recommended green fluid at £18 per litre and have changed it today. The steering is noticeably lighter!

The dealer told me that when they do a flush they use 6 litres and the charges would be in excess of £200. Whilst my change may not have achieved the cleanliness of the flush, I have improved performance noticeably for £50 and I m surprised that this does not form part of routine maintenance to at least improve the life of the ump and hydraulic gear. I shall repeat at 200k if we make it that far!

i done quite a bit of research on this as i wanted to flush my power steering fluid, after a lot of reading it turns out that texaco 7045e as used in the transmission is also recommended for the steering or at least thats what it says on the texaco web site.
