England 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black

I get around 32-34 on my commute (150 miles, all A1 and M25 at 70mph on cruise).

I have got a pic somewhere of my computer showing 37 but that was doing the same commute at 60mph and not getting caught anywhere in traffic.

I've done 20,000 in just under a year and my long term average is only 25 though, so traffic and shorter trips take the edge off it a bit, even if I still think it's great for a large 4x4 with a diesel V8 in it. Thumbs Up - Ad augusta per angusta -

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver

I get about 26mpg with a mixture of motorway and local driving (average speed less then 30mph)

Why does everyone think the trip computer is inaccurate?

The ECU controls injector cycles. The injectors supply a fixed amount of fuel every cycle. Number of cycles multiplied by injector capacity = fuel used

Surely then the trip computer should be 100% accurate? (unless its calculating the fuel used another way, but that would be silly - does anyone know?)

Distance travelled as recorded by the vehicle is used by the computer and when calculating MPG manually, hence this cannot be a source of difference between computer and a manual MPG calc.

That leaves the manual measurement of fuel put into the vehicle.

I think it's more likely that the differences people report between a manual MPG calc and the computer calc are due to inaccurate measurement of fuel by the pump. 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I will put it simply for you Rolling Eyes

The fuel computer is showing you the AVERAGE consumption.

Your MPG calculations using fuel used vs miles traveled is ACTUAL.

The two will NEVER EVER BLOODY EVER be the same Smile Think about it! Land Rover Addict

Disagree back.

That was a single journey. Mix it up with a week of stop start/slow fast and it will slide. Land Rover Addict

Not sure if it's still the case, but the on board MPG display can be calibrated very simply if it's out of whack (as it might be if the injectors are worn for example) on the 02 - 05 models.
