'you have lazy air suspension guv'

Just picked the TD6 (99k miles) up from her MOT, and she passed with 2 advisorys, front brake pads and a brake pipe deteriorating (will be asking about those in maintenance forum). The guy asked if the air suspension was ok, as he didnt want to get his jack stuck under the car (didnt understand this question).

As he was giving me the MOT certificate he told me the air suspension was 'lazy' and he raised it and it didnt do anything, then 5 minutes later while on the ramps it raised itself? Does this sound normal?

I've had no problems with it, granted only use it in normal, and 'access mode' whenever I park

Have i got a problem?

Cheers guys

Maybe he had the door open whilst he was in and out, then shut it to raise the ramp, at which pont the car would have raised on the suspension?

Only problem would be your compressor being worn. It will eventually not make the heights in the req time and put up faults. Untill it goes wrong don't worry. It's an easy fix about £300 for a new or £150(ish) from meerbusch on here for an overhaul kit [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Why was he Censored about with the air suspension while doing an MOT?

Its not a pass/fail component is it?

Don't actually know, said something about needing to get the jack under it? Maybe the wide jack they use while its up on the ramp? But that fits under normal cars so should of fit under my RR no problem?

Cheers Rob, not had any fault codes yet so will keep your suggestion on my note-pad. No idea why he was playing around with the air suspension??

Maybe Hong Kong, but he said it raised and levelled about 5 minutes later?

Give it a fiddle and see of it works. It will take time to recover from each action so best to park it in access, then raise to normal as driving off and then to off road a bit later, when stopped at a junction. See how long it takes for each raise. If its pretty quick 10-20 secs then its fine.....for now. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

When the tester logs a vehicle onto the VOSA computer before the test the computer automatically prints off a data sheet for the car which indicates any "quirks" the car may have which affects the test and indicates to the tester how to deal with the "quirks".
In the case of a RR the "quirk" is the air suspension.
To test the suspension components the car is jacked off it's wheels, front then rear.
If the car is jacked up in "normal" ride height when the tester comes to lower the car the car will remain stuck on the jack due to the suspension having adjusted itself whilst on the jacks.
To overcome this the tester is instructed to raise the car to "off-road height" before jacking, doing this allows to car to clear the jack when the jack is lowered.
This is done for both front and rear wheels.

Hence the need for the tester to operate the air suspension.

Hi 47
I thought it a bit strange, been to that garage the last 2 times for mots on my FF and they've never asked before? Was wondering if he was making small talk or letting me know he knows about FFRR's as well as the 6 white vans he had in his garage maybe?
