Unstable at speed

Any response to the comment a RR is unstable at say 70-80mph if it has to change direction? One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

That'll be down to the centre of gravity on the FF and if a sudden change of direction would be on the cards it would be a case kissing your arse bye bye probably Laughing

that's what dsc is for.

On a normal road wet or dry you shouldn't be able to flip an L322 easily.

Any 4x4 will be unstable to quick and rapid direction changes at that kind of speed but it doesnt stop the services and forces using them now does it Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

You have to remember that all objects will try to carry on doing what they are currently doing! If the car is going in a straight-line at 70 mph, if you removed the power, it would carry on doing that unless another force (friction, wind resistance, gravity etc) acted upon it.

So, to change direction you have to input energy to the system. But the inertia of the object will continue always at a tangent to the circle you are trying to create by turning the steering wheel. A tall or narrow vehicle will be more inclined to continue in a straight line, by rolling off along that course, than a low or wide (or both) vehicle. Schoolboy physics.

So, yes, mad yanking at the steering wheel in a Range Rover would be more inclined to cause upset than doing the same in a go-cart.

Part of the problem, is that these days particularly, many people seem to be able to earn quite a lot of money, and therefore afford a Range Rover, despite being at thick as pig s Censored t and are therefore all surprised when the laws of physics decide to have a little look at what they are up to.

Just for some amo on pistonheads, I happen to think the l322 is exceptionaly stable for a car of its type, I just wondered if it had an data from tests saying exactly what G it could pull in a Moose test and not flip over, I agree the DSC is very good and ive had a few avoidance moments in the 60,000 miles ive done in her. The unstableness is all dependent on the acuteness of the direction change .

Take my granny as an example.

Now, If she was having a bad day and was running late and were to swerve towards her TV as soon as she entered the room in a rush to watch "cash in the attic", she'd end up face first in the aspadistra with her gusset on display, especially if she had her tea and hobnob on a tray which would make her top heavy.

Now, if she were to enter the room and head in a gentle stumbling curve towards her favourite armchair wanting just a nanny nap, completely ignoring the sharp turn towards the TV, and wearing her fur lined ankle slippers with no tea tray or biscuits, she'd be as serene and majestic as the QE2 in southampton harbour on a fine summers day, so much so that she'd be snoring before she hit the embracing familiar welcome of her cosy chair.

If you turn off DSC, find a nice wide open space and accelerate an SC with the steering wheel turned at least twice, it WILL lift a wheel ..... Land Rover Addict

If you're in a RR and have an unstable load when near a moose you must be a Canadian.

Don't need many G's to pull a moose in the pubs around here. It's tradition to do a flip when you pull a good one.
