France 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
lost cd, radio, gps screen, voice control etc

hi folks, i have been advised to join this site with the hope that i can get my range rover back to all systems go. so i will first try to explain the events that led to the systems in question going down. this might take a little time so bare with me.

i have had the vogue since JUNE 2011 and it has been a dream and a joy to drive/own. i never belived i would ever find a spare 14K to buy such a wonderfull one owner RR.

anyway it has been faultless upto a couple of months ago when one morning it failed to start due to a flat battery!. just to add at this stage that i live in the dordogne in south france and i only use the car perhaps once a week or sometimes one a fortnight and even then only about 50 miles so it doesent get a lot of use. . having said my total milage in the last 17months was 6OOOmiles. Cool

i digress, so i started it by way of jump start and it started on the first flick of the key. after a very short run and back again to using it once a week it contiued to start without fail. HOWEVER Big Cry, when i got back in the car, i noticed the audio button to the left of the screen was flashing which it has never done before, it is normally either on or off Exclamation , so upon pressing it, nothing happened. the land rover logo was being displayed on the screen ( touch screen version but not mk 4 ), upon pressing all the hard keys around the screen, none of them worked, so i have no radio playing through the screen, no cd, no GPS display, Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Censored Bow down Big Cry . i have also noted that the button on the steering wheel that enables you to talk to the computer etc also had stopped. after about a week, it all sprang back into life Thumbs Up . then about a month later i had another flat battery and again jumped it to start.

again i lost every thing mentioned above but this time it has not come back on. so the scrren is on but just showing the logo, no audio from radio or cd. no gps no talk to pewter.

i have the amp unit below the gps rom drive in the rear left boot. there is power to this as i can put in and eject the disc etc.

it is horrible driving the car without this system running so any help would be great.

pppppppppsssssss I FORGOT TO MENTION, i have just replaced the battery with 110AH 850cc Thumbs Up fully expecting it to all spring back into life but it has not Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry . it has been suggested to redisconnect the neg for 20 mins as this might reboot the system????

please help guys if you can on any thoughts as to what i can check or change.

kind regards

bob

back to basics first Bob, disconnect the battery and wait 20 minutes , reconnect and turn the steering wheel fully left and then full right...this procedure is in our wiki ... ... - .- -.

It also helps (maybe a good one for the Wiki) to hold the positive and negative clamp together for at least 10 seconds to drain the charge of the ECUs and reset them. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Not specific help, but you say "( touch screen version but not mk 4 )", For future ref, the Mk3 and Mk4 sat nav units are BMW units and are only applicable to the non-touchscreen early L322's.

Yours will be a Ford/Denso system.

Hopefully disconnecting the battery for a while and reconnecting may sort your issue.

Take it there isn't any damp in the boot ?

hi guy's

thanks for the replies, in answer to your comments, i have not as yet tried to disconnect the battery since the new one was fitted so i will try this tonight. i did disconnect it for 2 mins when the old battery was still on the car but this made no difference.

i did get the guys to join the pos and neg for 2 MINS, when they took the old battery off and before they put the new one on, but this dident help matters.

i havent had the alternater checked but is is charging at 14 plus volts so i have assumed it is working fine?

i have looked in the boot, and i cant really see any signs of water ingress to either the left or right rear electrical compartments!! but i will remove all the connections and check them as well.

with regards to which type of gps i have, it seems that has just been answered that it is probably the ford/denso system. i have the hard keys either side of the screen to select the different options, then i can change the settings by touching the screen. just to confirm, does that defo sound like the denso system?

the rear left compartment in the boot holds the gps disc player. it does not have a power on light, but just an eject button on the left and a lock/unlock slide button on the right of the unit. under that is i believe the lear amp. does that sound about right for a denso?

im not doubting you at all, simply clarifying so i know who to explain what i have.

kind regards to you all

bob

Hi mate.

You definately have the Ford/Denso system. The BMW system is not touchscreen in any way. Think it was about 2005 when it changed.

So ignore everything on the forums that talks about Mk3 and Mk4 gps's, you have the newer system..........

Sounds like you don't have a water ingress issue, which can only be a good thing. Check under the spare wheel to be sure, ie is the steel floor wet......

Short of double checking the connections and disconnecting the battery for a bit, I'm running out of ideas......

hi mjdronfield

thanks for the reply. that clarifies the gps. whether is is a better or worse system than the mk 3 i dont know, but it seems easy enough to get around it. but the mk4 system looks a much nicer system screen wise???

regarding the water ingress, we had some real heavy downpours several weeks ago and there were a couple of drops of water under the spare wheel, but there was no sign of any water in the side comparments, but i will check all the connections for sure.

with regard to disconnecting the battery, do i just need to remove the negative; or do i need to go through the whole proceedure of neg and pos as decribed in the wiki link?
Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

ps this seems a great forum. it just nice to get replies which on some forums seems impossible

Hi Bob,

I upgraded my sat nav from Mk3 to Mk4, which essentially is a CD to DVD map disk upgrade, so the data comes off the disk fast enough to keep up with you as you go up the road ! The Mk4 also adds a 3D perspective view, and partial postcode entry.

As I said, won't be applicable to you, as you have touchscreen. Touchscreen should be more intuitive to use I'd imagine. Never tried one.

I normally just disconnect the negative on the battery to be honest, but you're probably best following the wiki, as if you do it the easy way, and you still have a problem, you'll never know whether you should have disconnected both.

I've only been involved in a couple of forums, the BMW M5 Messagebaord and this one. Folks on here are very knowledgeable and are always keen to help.

Land Rover do sell a plastic bag, sorry a "water shedder", that goes behind the units in the boot to protect against water ingress. Was about £7 if I remember right. I don't have an issue, but fitted one just in case.

Have a look here ;

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic4551.h...er+ingress

Better safe than sorry.

I believe the water tends to come in through a window seal or where the rear bumper fastens on in the depths of the boot......

If you have Bluetooth ... Then remove the 54 pin plug and check for water ingress on the connector and module ( blue looking paste on terminals ) Bluetooth Exchange www.bluetoothexchange.co.uk

I agree with Wiggs.

If the Nokia module goes down, it shuts everything down.

Maybe the connectors need a clean.
