Broken seat plastic side trim

As this seems to happen quite alot, I knew I was on borrowed time, and 9 years of use has finally broken the drivers seat trim, the one at the side, enclosing the electric seat switches.......

Its only broken around the screw head at the back where it fastens onto the rear of the seat.

Has anyone managed to fix it ?

I'm thinking perhaps drilling a hole in the top of a metal tyre valve cover, and using that as a cup to hold the screw head and stop the trim moving off the head.......

Does anyone know what screw thread the torx bolt is, as if it were slightly longer..........

Any ideas ?

can the plastic be glued back together with strong adeshive, i use carpenters mitre fix for quite a lot of repairs around the place and it sticks well, glue and activator pack available from screwfix, b and q, magnet, howdens and most hardwarey type places.

have a look in the screwfix catalogue for a replacement bolt, they do all sorts, have not seen it but would guess that it would probably be available in a variety of lengths, you will have to buy a few though.

how about something like this:

Cheers mate.

The plastic has literally broken around the screw head. Its pretty much acting like the screw isn't in.

Don't think its best suited to glue holding, as there isn't much surface area.

Will try and find out what the bolt thread is, and I've a feeling a longer bolt with a slightly bigger head may hold it.

Thanks for the screwfix link. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

loadza different sizes and head shapes available, I'm sure with a bit of bodging and prodding it can be forced to stay in position. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

if you can get the trim of, great.. I repaired both my friends by gluing a washer behind the trim with some epoxy, you can build it up and bet plenty on as it is all hidden. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Ah..........good idea.

I have a hot melt gun. That may do the trick with a washer, provided I don't get the end near the viewable trim.

I'm guessing with bolt sizes at the mo. The online microcat says M4 x 12, but I'm not convinced.

Firing up the old laptop with Microcat installed as I type..........

I think it was a m5, remember to key the area well , after they dried we painted the front black to match the trim and it was as good as new, in fact better as you don't have to worry about the bolt pulling through.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Thanks Dave.

According to my Microcat, its M5 x 6.0 mm.

Do the other 4 clips just press down with a flat blade to release do you remember ?

RAVE just says release 4 clips...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

its one of those trims that when you get it off it all comes clear, you don't need a screwdriver as you can do it with your finger, just take your time and don't force it, start with the clip at the front.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
