Coolant leak

Well I pulled the car out of the garage this morning and noticed a patch of oil under the car, on investigating the oil I came to the conclusion it was gearbox oil(red and thin). I got under the car and found a slight drip around the bellhousing but nothing major. I took the car out for a drive about and all seemed as it should. I have now googled the problem and thought it is the oil cooler pipes to the gearbox, so back under the car I go for further investigation. Pipes seem ok there is no oil anywhere not even a micro droplet, so does anyone know where it may be coming from? By the way it is the 5 speed zf box.
Cheers
Phil

could it be coolant? the gearbox oil should be a honey color if new and prob black if it hasnt been change in its life. the V8 use either red/pink/orange coolant or blue/green. if its by the bell housing could be one of the hose's at the back of the engine running down. i had a similar issue with mine. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Could well be. Coolant doesn't evaporate and leaves a patch on the floor which looks like oil Thumbs Up

Just been out to check coolant and I don't seem to have lost any but it was still slightly warm. It is red/pink in colour but by dipping my finger in the header tank I couldn't really tell if the texture was the same also I have cardboard under the car and the coolant/oil was sitting on top and had not been absorbed, which makes me think it is oil.

Have you had the air con on ? Could just be water drips from that (slightly contaminated). This drip is perfectly normal!

Does sound like coolant from manifold gaskets / PCV hoses etc though at the back of the engine. If it was oil/ATF it would drip everytime. .

Quick update: It seems that a coolant hose which is something to do with the lpg system, is actually a rubber gas hose and with warm coolant being passed through it has gone brittle and started to crack, there is also a slight leak on the thermostat housing, I am a bit p****d that the wrong hose was fitted in the first place but it has been rectified now. I also had a level 2 service done a few weeks ago and none of this was noticed? Thanks for all the replies.

I have still got a water leak Big Cry I am begining to think its the coolant manifold as other people have suggested,( it only seems to leak when cold).I will be doing all my own routine servicing from now on, but at the moment I am off work with a bad back and trying to mess with the car is a no no.

Update:
I still have my leak. It has been in the garage 3 times and still not sorted Big Cry so I am now a bit more mobile I decided to investigate it my self and low and behold after about 10 minutes messing about I was convinced I had spotted it, so 8am christmas eve I was back in the garage for another look and yes it was leaking from from where I thought (T Piece to lpg vaporizer) so now i just need to get some hose, 2 T pieces and some coolant and do it myself.
