Iced up doors

so -6 overnight.....went to FFRR to open doors, and they were sealed shut with ice / frost. Eventually managed to open the front passenger door, and slip across into drivers seat.
any suggestions as to what i can put around the door deals to stop the doors freezing onto the frames?

I use car wax tp prevent water lying there but still get the odd frozen shut scenario. The easiest fix if it happens is to get a jug of warm water and trickle it round the seals. It all un-freezes in a few seconds.

My problem is freezing handle, so when I open the door the mechanism stays open and the door will not close. Looks like a greasing is required in the door cavity.

There is mention in the manual of putting something on the flocked top seal in winter. 2011 Stornaway Grey 5.0SC Autobiography

Take a look at your door opening once you've managed to yank the frozen door open. You'll see that you've just very effectively removed a good portion of the felt from the upper, outer door seal. These need to be sprayed with silicone spray every year to prevent this from happening - it is part of the service procedures. This sort of stuff starts happening when vehicles are not serviced regularly by competent, diligent persons (not an attack on anyone - just stating facts). If your RR was serviced recently and this was not done, go back and complain. The seals are not cheap and are vital in reducing wind noise.

gummi pfedge is the stuff to stop the rubbers seals from sticking and as the the frozen locks, the only proper way to remedy this is to strip ot the locking mechanism and stuff a load of grease in there. i tried the spraying silicon grease into the lock but it didnt do the job... ... - .- -.

Thumbs Up

I've read in a couple of places on the net that Vaseline is the one thing you shouldn't use on your doors seals.
Being patrolium based it'll will rot the rubber seals in a few years. Wink

I had the frozen door thing a few weeks ago and used a couple of dashboard wipes on the seals, does the same thing as the silicone spray, but less mess. Mr. Green

I also need to do the driver door handle as it's sometimes hard to pull open and needs a couple of tugs to get it too release, and that's when it's not frozen shut!!

have used the LR "genuine parts" silicon spray for the top of the door seals - both on the felt and the rubber.

is there any point in also doing the rubber seals round the sides and at the bottom?

Sounds like your cable behind the door card is about to go or is overstretched …. Whistle
