Front Suspension hole!

For those like me who've never seen the front suspension & shock absorber off the car, here's my old one:

and this is what happens with age. The rubber dries out, hardens, and cracks and eventually will give up the ghost with a loud "PHUT!!!" as mine did Big Cry :

All replaced now with shiny new parts. Thumbs Up It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 7 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.

Not to mention the Lada Niva before those. (I said not to mention it!)

Thanks. I'm trying to gauge how much life left in my front struts. ______________________________

Mine were the originals, so 12 years old, like the car. After 12 years, I guess I was perhaps on borrowed time! I replaced both sides, the whole strut assembly (shock absorbers and air suspension bags).
If you look at the photos closely, you can see crinkle lines in the rubber. That's probably the giveaway!
It actually blew when I put the car into the raised position to check something underneath. Maybe otherwise they would have been good for a bit longer, but I was half-expecting them to pop some time anyway.
Like you maybe ...???
Island 4x4 were the cheapest I found for Delphi units, with cheap shipping to France, but I wouldn't know about shipping to Oz!
Good luck Thumbs Up It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
