Surprise- that went quite well

I set about replacing my PCV pipes tonight and can't believe how easy it was-at least for the two top pipes anyway

The original pipes were rotten and were venting to atmosphere, they fell apart when I was removing them- never seen something like that happen before

Anyway- job done and only have to do the two lower pipes- I hear that they are a bit of a sod to get at- more fun to follow

You will be in tears by the end of the day !! The small pipe at the back was a pig of a job as was replacing the oil separator , the one shaped like a cone which is necessary if you are doing a proper overhaul of the system.

You can clean out and re-use the OSV (cone shaped item) - mine was not too bad. WD40, petrol, have been used by various people to clean it.

I am not sure if the OP is actually replacing the PCV itself, however if the pipes are showing signs of build up deposits inside them then best replace it as well.

Access to the bolts is a bit difficult but they are graded 8.8. I think the key is to make sure your torx bit is perfectly square on to the bolt head and you can apply pressure behind to force it on to the bolt while turning.

Clearance is tight so I removed the plastic pipe clip on the bulk head to give better clearance.

Bought a set of long torq (110mm) enabled me to easily see when everything was squared up and use a decent sized wrench. Not wanting to strip the torx, I gently applied increasing pressure until eventually the bolt cracked loose.

Found conflicting info on torx sizes - mine were T30 - some posts say T27 - I gues it might feel like a T27 but if it is T30 then T27 will strip the head.





Pipe sizes - the small one off the tail of the PCV was 5mm ID - got some 5mmID/17mmOD pipe from motorfactor - could have don with OD a bit slimmer but a light lube of engine oil got it threaded (start from the sump pipe end and work towards the PCV

To get the OSV valve sump pipe - easiest to undo the PCV sump pipe as it is in front of the OSV pipe. The old pipe clips can be undone by wedging a screwdriver into the clip - look around the top of the engine there are similar pipe fittings to give you an idea.

Attach pipe to OSV before threading it down to the sump. Torch and mirror on stick are your friend.

I did mine over a few days - just loosening bolts gradually - if they did not all undo on the first day I re-tightened the loose ones and tried the others the next day - eventually they all undid without stripping heads Very Happy

As @DaveK probably found - promising yourself it will all be done in one day is possible but frustrating so do a bit in a time to save your sanity. Howard

Job finished---- and yes the two lower pipes were awful

Knuckles are proper scuffed but the job is done

The lower pipe ( the short one) was split through and rotten just like the top two pipes so it's.a good job that I got off my arse to do it or calamity would have resulted

I hope that this pipe change stops my oil leakage issue because it doesn't seem like my rocker covers spill much

Next week I will be found out and about using some fossil fuel for fun

Did you replace the actual pcv as well? given the pipe condition it is probably best. And clean the osv Howard
