Wow, was he mentally retarded or something?? You MUST use DSC if you're in deep ruts and there is any danger of becoming partially beached. If the DSC senses slip and backs off the throttle as your passing over a slightly higher bit then you'll be completely stuck and you will have lost all momentum that would have otherwise got you through. If you're starting off in deep sand, or uphill in sand you MUST disable DSC because again it will cut all power and you'll end up bogged down and going nowhere. Or as you're driving along and you get to a deep bit of sand the DSC will cut in and you'll instantly stop. I've already described slippery climbs as above, but slippery flat can have the same effect - Going nowhere. The button is there for a very good reason - it's a system that was developed for a BMW saloon - it doesn't translate that well to SOME off road situations. That's why terrain response was developed as you cant expect the moron behind the wheel to remember to turn DSC off. What your instructor probably meant was that no RR needs it because it never goes off road. I'm fed up of dealerships scoffing at the idea that Land Rovers go near the rough stuff. When I was 18 I wanted a Freelander (I know the shame of it) and when I mentioned its off road ability the LR dealer laughed and literally said "you'd have to be stupid to take these off road". That was from a proper LR dealer. |

Hi Dan, I stumbled across this article today through the day and tested the 10sec DSC off option which worked, however, I want to turn it back on now but can't. Held the button for 10secs again thinking it would reverse it - no luck, turned engine off and then back on 5-6secs later, but still unable to enable the 'dsc' button i.e. can't get the green dsc display to appear on dash. What am I doing wrong? Steve

It should reset next time you start the car. It's designed so it's a pain in the ass to disable - so people don't kill themselves.

Cheers Dan , glad you're online, it would have annoyed me all night. I guess I didn't leave the engine turned off long enough. I'll nip out now and give it a go again! Ta Steve

Hi Dan, you're correct of course. Just started car up and all back to normal. You'd think you would be able to enable it again without turning the engine off. Anyway, I'm happy now. Cheers Steve
