It depends on what type your brother is. I love espresso but am lazy, so I have a Nespresso machine, great quality coffee but no work to speak off.

One of my good friends is mad about coffee as well but he has the old fashioned Italian machine, separate grinder, compacter etc. He likes to play with different blends etc. He loves the work to get that good cup of espresso.

The espresso coming out is equally good, it is just the amount of work. The machine you are looking at is a "work" machine not an "easy" machine. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I was in comet tonight.. I know they have gone tits up but they have loads of coffee machines and I think they were at least 20% off. I was looking at them as my mother had recently bought one. Got to be worth a look. Previously..

It all depends ...

The capsule type machines are convenient, but you pay (quite a lot) for the capsules.

The completely manual route for the purists usually has a burr grinder and a seperate expresso maker. I decided that I didn't have enough free time to take this route.

The compromise is one of the "bean to cup" machines - cofee beans in a container at the top; built in burr grinder; pushes the water through the ground coffee; ejects the "puck" of coffee once used into a container; rinses clean with hot water when you turn it off. I bought something like this http://www.johnlewis.com/231706513/Product.aspx a few years ago and it makes a very good expresso in about a minute on my way out of the house each morning.

I have tasted the coffee of a number of different machines and sofar the Nespresso still provides the best taste by far (IMHO). It is the only one that reminds me of the espresso bars in Milan (Italy) we used to go to every morning while I worked there. Crema layer, smooth, etc.

I think that is another factor that is quite important, what quality and taste comes out and that is almost entirely based on the coffee itself (beans, ground, capsules). I think Nespresso are excellent at getting the right beans and blends together. Cost yes, is an issue but for me, I only have 1 espresso per day as it is the taste that matters.

If I would still be a 10 cups a day person than Nespresso is getting very expensive and I would look at an alternative.

Funny thing, Total in Paris has Nespresso machines in their coffee corners. Now that is the way it should be, I think !!! They even have a little espresso corner in their canteen !!!! I never minded going to the meetings in their office Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I get a packet of coffee delivered every week. All have been superb and all are freshly roasted with tons of flavour.

Jura f90 in our kitchen. About a grand new but you can get them professionally reconditioned from dealer on EBay for about £4-500. Lovely coffee for a bean to cup machine and much cheaper than pods. I agree Nespresso tastes great but the pods get very expensive. Lloyd Barnes

Nespresso hmm well gave mine away after 4 weeks to my mother , not a touch on a proper bean to cup machine , flavours artificial , poor consistency of coffee , went back to full machine , i do love my coffee in the mornings Smile Far to many gone...
