calais to cologne

its about 3 weeks until i have my roadtrip to cologne and i was wondering if anyone has some advise on the best route from Calais..
google gives me 3 routes so do i take the brussels e40 route or shoot up to antwerpen and then join the e40, or go up to antwerpen and take the e34/a67 route ..

any advise re traffic or route would be appreciated.. ... - .- -.

Peronsally I'd avoid the Antwerpen Ring road at all cost. Not done it for a few years lived in Holland for 5 years and did a good proportion of this route every other week.
Guess that only leaves you one route. Regards

I have done the Antwerp ring road less than a year ago and it is still bad most of the day especially around the morning and evening rush hours. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Both ring roads, brussels and antwerp, can be congested - it depends on the day and time. Stan, any ideas and then can give you some advice.

edit to say - my prefered route is E40 brussels, R0 ring then E40 Leuven then E314 Aachen

Time of day is key, like travelling in the UK.

Maybe I was lucky but did Calais to 's-Hertogenbosch on a Friday morning without trouble other than a short queue through the tunnel at Antwerp.

Stan, 4pm weekday you are into traffic on both rings, i sat for 3hours on the E17 the other day (Kortrijk to Antwerp). If you feel like having an adventure then E40 E17 Temse direction Mechelin, then Aarschot to join the E314 - you'll pass my frontdoor!!.

check the live traffic on http://www.lesoir.be/trafic

@Martin, 'nail on head' as they say re the time of day, looks like which ever way i go i'm going to get the rush hour traffic..

@David, what time do you have your tea then.. Laughing ...i think i'll stick to the main routes and hope for the best .. ... - .- -.

Most of the time the ring of Antwerp is not done.

When you are on the E40 between Brugge and Gent, you could check this website to decide which one is the best option. http://www.touringmobilis.be/

Best is to tackle the ring of Brussels after 9.30AM and before 3PM.

And avoid Monday and Friday.

Thumbs Up
