Gearbox about to go?

Lately i have noticed that when i am cruising at between 50-60mph at 2000 revs, and i then want to accelerate, there seems to be an initial hesitation, without any movement on the rev counter. When you then press the accelerator harder, it drops gear and the revs climb and it accelerates.

i don't know if this is normal but i don't seem to remember it doing this before and i have had the car for over 1 year. I was concerned if its the early signs of gearbox failure or slipping clutch (not sure if that applies to automatics.. Question )

2003 Vogue 4.4 petrol

Any help would be appreciated.

had a similar problem in the summer....
did a fluid change..all good since free use of "RSW" all comms to anyone nearby

It was serviced this time last year and i am sure that the gearbox oil was changed...but i will double check

Sure it's the gearbox? Could be the engine not responding to the throttle - MAF could be on its way out.

I haven't got a clue what it could be, just like i dont know what a MAF is! Smile

Mass Air-Flow sensor - in the induction pipe from the air filter. If they pack up, they don't seem to cause a fault code, but the engine starts running rough - i.e. acceleration can be a bit all or nothing for example.

dont know of any garage that does a gearbox fluid change as part of a service free use of "RSW" all comms to anyone nearby

I had similar issues and it was cleared by a single flush of fluid and a filter change on the gearbox. A double flush might change more oil, but it costs a lot more and isn't always necessary. The Megaflush guy wasn't very accommodating, although I'm not convinced by the Megaflush process anyway.
