i cant see the benefit of paying that much for an air filter, just get a standard one it will work just as well....

you could buy 5 of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-L322...ange+Rover| for what the 'green' one costs.. ... - .- -.

is the cost is very high for what was wondering how often should be cleaned, not to change it every 10000 km ..... in terms of performance so that does not change, but if the maid service every 30000/40000 I would say it is worth worth .... Shocked

The only way to get more air through a filter of a set size is to make the holes bigger. Then you have a few issues.

I tend to regard products such as this as snake oil till proven otherwise.

If it were that easy to add HP (=increase efficiency / fuel economy as well), the OEMs would be all over it. They do not seem to be...

I would go for the standard paper filters. To me the blurp sounds nice but I wonder the "environmental effects" are real once you do a cradle to cradle assessment.

As for change frequency, I doubt whether there will be a major/significant difference between standard and the K&N and the likes. It all depends on how much dirt goes in. If the filter holds less of that dirt the change frequency goes up but more dirt goes into the engine. I highly doubt that this filter has more area than the original filters as that is the only other factor that can affect change frequency. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

The original filters are a foam type so i would say they have move area and better filtration due to the area covered by a foam surface.

every 5-10k should be the service interval for a TD vehicle regardless of what the car or manufacturer say as the oil gets nasty real quick in a TD and holds so much soot its not good for it as that forms part of the oil medium FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Standard all the way with me too. Over the years tried pancake filters, K+N and have never noticed a differance...
As to filter change, I change mine yearly as for some reson the TD6 filter gets really dirty, never seen anything like it before on any other car I've owned!

I have a K&N which was fitted a year ago. Removed the EGR at the same time, so diffucult to say what resulted in a bit more bottom end torque, but there is definately more induction noise when you accelerate........

I had a ITG air filter in my Discovery Td5 for 4 years without issue, but I do wonder when you clean and reoil the filters, if any excess oil gets deposited on the wires in the air flow meters and can cause an issue.

I shall see how dirty it is at service time, and will keep an open mind as to whether to go back to OEM or not....

I am running a K&N as over here the original air filters are ridiculously expensive and the environment is quite dusty. So it is much cheaper for me to run a K&H. However since I now have a good line towards the main dealer in Holland and good transport to here (I travel to Holland regularly myself amongst others), it would have been easier to go paper filters again but will stick with the K&N filter for now, to see how it holds up here. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

K&N and similar 'filters' - or more correctly 'vegetable colanders' aren't much good apart fom keeping large insects and small birds out of your engine. When it comes to protecting your engine from dust, particularly finer stuff, they just don't cut it. Go the paper filter every time. If you don't believe me, hold one up to the sun - see all the holes - they keep Censored all out...

If anyone's interested I can post up some links to some professional filter tests that show how bad some of these filters perform.

Cheers - Gav.

Are the after market K&N type filters not sold on the "larger surface area" benefits of air flow ? So even if they had the same size holes as the paper elements, better air flow would still be achieved............

To be fair, I'm not convinced between K&N / ITG / Pipercross and OE etc, I just preferred the idea of not having to change it every service........

There is more induction noise, which is OK in an XR2..........OK showing my age now !!

And I still think I bu**ered up an air flow meter by over oiling my ITG, so they are far from not having downsides.....

As I said, not totally conviced at the mo. Might go back to standard. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
