Key stuck in ignition

Hiya,

Help!! The key is stuck in the ignition in my 2005 s/c - any idea how I can release it? I've called 2 LR dealers and neither knows..

All assistance gratefully received! It's cold out 'ere....

Are you sure that 'Park' on the gear lever is properly engaged?

Yep, double-checked that. I'vebeen up and down the box , into Sport mode and back again, and I've tried waiting until the car's systems reset. Still no go. The red light is on to indicate Park mode, and P appears in the dash display. It looks like a sensor might have failed?

Have you tried starting the car and driving round the block thus getting gearbox oil nice and warm and then trying to remove in case of faulty inhibitor switch?

I'm reluctant to reset the battery until an expert has had a look atit - I might break it properly if I do it myself. Wink

The car has just done a 40-mile run, so the oil should be hot. Smile there's a buzzing noise from the console, wonder if that's related? But it alwaysdoes that .

The buzzing noise is a fan behind the mini grill next to the climate controls, it just blows air over the temperature sensor which is normal Thumbs Up

I'm sorted ! Smile

It was the fork next to the gear lever - I pulled up the leather surround and the following was jammed. I poked it and it released. And then the key came out. So I lubed up the whole mechanism and it works now. It's booked in for a service at the end of the month, so I might get them to give it a clean.

Thanks for all your help! Smile

Dave: i have a garage, but the Rangie doesn't fit it! I'dhave had tto have the car recovered to secure storage for the night if I hadn'tbeen able to fix it .

Would photos help anyone, when I'm back on my PC?
