Its a done deal ... the RR is gone.
In short, its a change of priorities for me. I have a baby boy now, and rather than lie on my back under a rusting car or when out for a walk with him thinking how I'm going to lie on my back fixing a rusty car, I'd rather spend time with him and enjoy that time with less worries.
I've had the RR for 4+ years and its 10 years old now, 112k miles and to be honest, its basically been one thing after another, I can't really remember any significant spell of time where the thing has gone without throwing any errors or something needing done to it. Its had gearbox, front and rear suspension, numerous bushes, sensors, brake parts, cooling system pipes, radiators , water pumps, yada yada yada. Consequently, whilst its an extremely enjoyable drive, and certainly one of the most capable offroaders I've driven, its still a case of thinking "what next?" So, with the MOT looming and work needing done on it, the wife decreed its time to get something else.
On wednesday, I pick up a freelander 2 ... i'll get me coat.
Sure, It aint no RR in stature, but its small enough to b economical, big enough to manage the horse trailer and has the features I like ( cold climate pack etc ) and some gadgets that the RR doesn't have ( like touchscreen and bluetooth ), plus its much younger and lower miles.
In case you wondering why i didn't go for other things:
FFRR - looked at them and thought its just more of the same, in fact, I think the early dash in mine with the cherry / black / cream was way nicer than later stuff i looked at.
RRS - nice, but the interior pre-2010 looks dated to me, plus the wife didn't like it much
Disco 3 - big, heavy on fuel, too many cubbie holes and dirt magnets and I find i can't see the instruments all that well even with the seat fully down.
I'll not be a stranger here, I very much like the place and its been an invaluable source of help to me over the last few years and I thank you all for that and if I can, i'll pass that help on in anyway.
So, so long fattie its been fun. V8 or else ...
