Which Full Fat RR to buy?

Hi

I'm looking at getting FF but not sure which engine variant to get. It'll be used mainly to get to work (short journey on the motorway) and then around town.

so whats your opinions on which one to get.

Thanks in advance.

New? Second Hand? Budget?

In my opinion, avoid anything powered by heavy oil - it's a car not a narrowboat! But then, I'm biased!

forgot to mention budget is around £10k-£15k

i would like a supercharged but realistically looking for the best package of decent power (enough for overtaking) around 15 to 20 mpg mixed driving is what id be happy with and reliable, and i know that range rover and reliable dont go in the same sentence usually. Laughing

For that budget, your choice is between the TD6 Diesel or the 4.4 V8 petrol.

If it's only short journeys then 4.4 V8 wins hands down, speaking from experience!

Faster and much quieter

make sure you get a vogue Thumbs Up

So why do all short trip / delivery stop / town users / taxis all go for diesel?

My TD6 will overtake anything I point it at if I am in the mood (OK not performance cars!) once you get the turbo kicked in.

An S/C in town is just a bit silly mpg wise. .

I bought my TD6 as a luxury cruiser for family transport. It will happily break the speed limit if required and has never failed to overtake anything I tried to pass. Yes the SC will Censored all over it on acceleration and the TDV8 will out perform it on every test... But, it is still a more than capable beast. I love it. Touch wood, it runs sweetly and I can't really justify "upgrading" to a TDV8, although that would be my choice if buying my first FFRR again.
At your budget, it's an easy choice for me.... TD6. Previously..

I think the best value choice is the AJV8 Petrol engine as its:

1. £3k cheaper than an equivelent TDV8
2. Much Smoother than TDV8
3. Sounds better than TDV8
4. Its petrol so no diesel shoes
5. More unique than a TDV8
6. Petrol is Cheaper than Diesel
7. Purchase price saving MORE than compensates for slightly lower MPG (I have average 22mpg over last 800 miles mostly long trips)
8. You can be a PetrolHead Whistle

i wouldnt mind a diesel but i just think it'll be too slow for me and not as reliable as the petrol, gearbox issues on the td6 spring to mind. i am tempted by the BMW propelled 4.4 petrol as they are reasonably priced and with a good bit of power anyone have any real life mpg figures and know what the reliability is like and how it compares to Jaguars 4.4 petrol engine?

thanks

If you are looking at using it for a quick blast on the motorway then around town, I would think you are in for a shock for MPG... Shocked Previously..

my 4.4 jag engined rangie gets about 16 around the doors and 21 on the motorway with a few blast now and then Thumbs Up
the 4.4 ajv8 feels a lot faster than the stats would indicate

My BMW 4.4 V8 got 23.5 mpg at 70 mph cruise the other day, on Average around 18. that makes a cost of 26.5p per mile on petrol or 13.8p per mile on LPG (equivalent MPG 45mpg ??!) Question Shocked

BTW, pm sent!

16 mpg from mixed driving is actually ok much the same as i am currently getting. unless mpg figures are below 15 mpg for the 4.4 petrol it seems the logical choice, reliability for these cars is questionable how good/bad are the 4.4's ?

Same as any other model I guess. I would go for a facelift all day long to get newer engine, box, touch screen etc
