For that budget, your choice is between the TD6 Diesel or the 4.4 V8 petrol.

So why do all short trip / delivery stop / town users / taxis all go for diesel?

I bought my TD6 as a luxury cruiser for family transport. It will happily break the speed limit if required and has never failed to overtake anything I tried to pass. Yes the SC will all over it on acceleration and the TDV8 will out perform it on every test... But, it is still a more than capable beast. I love it. Touch wood, it runs sweetly and I can't really justify "upgrading" to a TDV8, although that would be my choice if buying my first FFRR again.

I think the best value choice is the AJV8 Petrol engine as its:

i wouldnt mind a diesel but i just think it'll be too slow for me and not as reliable as the petrol, gearbox issues on the td6 spring to mind. i am tempted by the BMW propelled 4.4 petrol as they are reasonably priced and with a good bit of power anyone have any real life mpg figures and know what the reliability is like and how it compares to Jaguars 4.4 petrol engine?

If you are looking at using it for a quick blast on the motorway then around town, I would think you are in for a shock for MPG... Previously..

My BMW 4.4 V8 got 23.5 mpg at 70 mph cruise the other day, on Average around 18. that makes a cost of 26.5p per mile on petrol or 13.8p per mile on LPG (equivalent MPG 45mpg ??!)

16 mpg from mixed driving is actually ok much the same as i am currently getting. unless mpg figures are below 15 mpg for the 4.4 petrol it seems the logical choice, reliability for these cars is questionable how good/bad are the 4.4's ? |
