22 inch supersport help needed. Can anyone identify the fake

Hi All

So just posted the car the My Range Rover section as a newbie. Need some urgent help please !

When i bought the car last week one of the alloys and two of the tyres had been kerbed badly. The alloy in question had such a ding that the garage has said needs changing.

So on to eBay i went and won a set of 3 alloys and tyres for a nominal amount ! very very happy, until i went back to the garage and he said they are different alloys ! I never even noticed but such a small difference. Here are the new alloys

Alloy 1 is off eBay with brand new tyres

Alloy 2 is on the car and needs changing

So, my question is, which alloy type is genuine/copy and what is the best way to go now ? try to hunt out a fourth alloy and tyre or sell them back on eBay as the 3 and start again ???

Thanks in advance everyone

A very confused BL Yawn

Assuming they are genuine Overfinch , do any of them have the word Overfinch stamped on the inside or a number ….

Or did the ebay advert say "style" which would mean copies … Thumbs Up

I have a set of these on my car (genunines).

The one on YOUR car looks genuine.

The set of 3 your purchased on eBay are replicas.

As above;

Alloy 2 looks more genuine but should be stamped with Overfinch somewhere.

Alloy 1 look like copies and I would be a bit wary of fitting them. You need to check that the load ratings for the tyre and the alloy are correct for your vehicle before you do. Otherwise you risk a wheel failure. Just because they have been advertised as 'will fit' doesn't mean they are suitable. Sorry.

My advice would be play safe and buy a set of genuine LR alloys and tyres off eBay.

Thanks everyone

I will get the suspension up tomorrow and have a look under the car at those on it

The alloys from eBay say apple on them and a few other bits will post later

I thought the ones on it looked more genuine and the guy who did the facelift has used all genuine parts so would have been surprised if they were fake. Just gutted I didn't notice the difference of the disgn on the eBay ones, but at least I got three good tyres out of it !

Will post when I find out , thanks again for all your help

Alloy 1 is fake

Alloy 2 should be genuine

The holes at the end of the spokes are a sign - on the fake there's one smooth radiused edge, on the genuine ones theres a step. If the are genuine, they will have Overfinch cast into the back of one spoke, you'll need to remove the wheel to see.

The early Supersports didn't have Overfinch on the front face of the spoke.

I'd advise you check the inside rim of all the alloys (fake or not) for cracks - these are prone to cracking, but can be repaired. 2006 Supercharged

They are both fakes IMHO, Yes number 2 is a better quality fake, probably a european one and number 1 is probably from china... Genuine Overfinch alloys dont take Land Rover centre caps...

Agreed, the ones on the car seem to be the genuine ones. Look at the difference on the edge of the spoke, where it meets the rim.

The ones on your car have the same ridge, as shown in this picture:

...Although I gotta say, the lip on yours seems more pronounced than in the genuine pic. Researching my first Range Rover purchase

Check out the size of the centre caps in these originals...
http://www.overfinch.nl/range_rover_sport/...rsport_22/
Also, the way to tell if you have a good strong wheel, weather its a copy or OE is to look inside the wheel and see if its a cheap flat wheel in its construction or if it has big strengthening ridges designed into the construction... Makes the wheel much much stronger with the ridges... Look inside a standard FFRR wheel for the ridges...
