Weird Transmission Failure message, what is it?!

Evening all,

For about the last 6 months I've been getting an error message in my FFRR after a few hours in the seat.

After an hour or more of driving if I stop for a minute or two (to get ciggies or whatever) and re-start the car I get this series of lights and bongs and warnings... (video link below)

All sorts happen, this series of lights and bongs, and the ride height some times lowers and I get a message saying Special Programmes not active (or words to that effect)

This particular video was taken tonight after a 147 mile run over about 2 hours 30 mins, all motorway at 70mph on cruise.

If I leave the car to cool down for about 10 minutes, the error messages clear and everything is alright.

Has anyone had any experience of something similar and found out what it is? The problem with random faults like this is there's never a sodding mechanic or Range Rover bloke around when it happens! I kind of don't want to send it to a dealer for them to spend thousands of my pounds trying to re-create the problem.

It's really doing my blood head in and if anyone can help I will be eternally grateful!!!

Cheers, Bomber. - Ad augusta per angusta -

Looks like something to do with the hill decent controll. Try switching it on or off a few times Three things in a blokes life his dog,his car and a Cornish pasty, nothing else matters.

I just had a problem with my alternator that threw up all sorts of error messages & flashing lights.

It was intermittent for about a month then eventually I had a flat battery and alternator had packed in altogether.

So it could be that your alternator is giving some power, but not enough to power all the systems ? - worth a look.

It definitely sounds like the dreaded low voltage issues, either caused by the batteries or alternators. Just search the forum and you will notice it is littered with bad battery / alternator issues like this. First check battery age and if in doubt replace with the biggest bloody battery you can get in (plenty advice on the forum) and second make sure the alternator works properly (good auto electrician should be able to do that).

Good luck and keep us posted. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
