Deactivating passenger airbag

I have a 2006 R-R, and 3 small kids (4, 3 and 1). It is becoming a squeeze to fit all 3 kids in the back - the youngest two are are still in fixed Stage 1 car seats, and the eldest is in a Stage 2 booster seat. However, middle child is about to move up to a Stage 2 seat as well, which will make it impossible for all 3 of them to fit across the back row.

I have been looking around on the internet trying to find out if the front passenger seat automatically detects a low weight little person and deactivates. It looks like cars after 2007 were fitted with a light in the headlining at the front which tells you when the airbag is deactivated, however my 2006MY has no such feature. With the booster seat on the front seat, there's no airbag light on the dash, and the owner's manual is next to useless.

Does anyone know if the airbags automatically deactivate, or if there's a manual way to deactivate (other than pulling a fuse)? My old VW had a key switch in the glove box to switch it off.

Thanks,

Iirc the air bag is meant to be turned off for rear facing seats only.

If someone is sat in it and can be thrown forward at all it will activate to help reduce whiplash and such as they fly forward to help decelerate them Smile

To be honest the risk of injury is a lot less than say glass coming in or suchlike and it's not like the American airbag problem, with the seatbelt on they will barely touch the airbag.

And I think even if the seat is empty the airbag will still go off Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
