How much body roll is normal in corners?

Hello all,

I'm shopping for a FFRR and stumbled on a one-owner 2003 td6. The seller is my LR mechanic and he gave me the car for a few days to try it out. What a world of improvement over my Disco II it is. Don't get me started ...

But the L322 seems to have an inordinate amount of body roll whilst cornering. At anything above 'old tipsy Grandpa Chirac' cornering speeds, she just leans over and stays there, as if there were no anti-roll bars on her at all. Is that how the much-vaunted cross-linked airbag bit is supposed to work? I had hoped that it would have rather more roll stiffness on the road, but soften up in low range.

Maybe this is the reason why I see so many L320 Sport models on the road here in France. Since it came out, that outsells the FFRR by far. The average frenchman is pushy and impatient at the wheel, and 'cornering fast' is a national sport second only to 'beating the other guy to the next red light.' If all FFRRs corner like the one I am driving, I can see why it would not sell well in France (I'm not French by birth, as you may detect a certain amertume).

I suppose I could learn to live with this american-esque handling, but I would have to drink less coffee. Or, do you esteemed gentlemen opine that something is wrong with this particular FFRR? Reno, on assignment in France.

without sitting in the range with you it would be difficult to say whether its normal or not...agreed the RRS is more of a car to drive than a fullfat so that reflects in the body roll..can you maybe drive another fullfat and judge the differences between the two.. ... - .- -.

Mine doesn't roll too badly, although it is worse than my Classic which seems to corner pretty flatly once you've got 'into' it. You've got to shift the weight over before the corner then go for it. What speed are you hitting bends at to cause the body roll , as FF's tend to float and wallow at cornering plus the centre of gravity is higher compared to a Sport

Salut (half)froggy, let just say the L322 worner far better than the 2CV Whistle

In all seriousness, give us the mileage on this Td6.

The L322 does corner rolling a bit, in fact, more that you Td5 Disco Series II if fitted with ASC.

Most likely, on a used L322, you will find stock airsprings, this is ok, but also original shock absorbers, this is not so good.
New ones would most likely help handling from corner to corner, but it will not help with rolling. Only an custom anti roll bar would help.

Anyway, it is an L322, the best by far, meant to be driven as a Rangie, not a sport car. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

About 100k miles. It was maintained at the LR Stealer in Mulhouse. I have no info on their reliability.

2CV, hah! I once drove one; my window popped open every time I hit the clutch. I'm 6'6" and way out of me league in any french car. Reno, on assignment in France.

Td6, 165 000 km... Confused

check the following :

- Gbox changed or not
- injection and injectors, changed or not ?
- air compressor
- steering column motors working ?

For info, Gbox change : 4500 euros, injector couple of 1000s E, air compressor, 800 fitted, Steering motors : up to 1000

you are better off buying a low mileage one with everything changed or serviced... and a good warranty!

If you read French, drop me a MP, I will send you the L322 buying guide, en français donc. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Well I went from a Disco 2 Td5 ES with Active Cornering Enhancement, and had that for nearly 5 years. I didn't half fling it about sometimes.

The RR is something of a shock after that, but now I'm about 7 months into ownership, its not too bad.

The L322 weighs best part of 3 tons, and just "going into" a corner causes a lot of initial roll, and then understeer.

I find its best to move the wight over and then go round the corner with a bit of balanced throttle, and its not too bad then.

The ACE system on the Discovery is just that.

I do miss the ACE, but not much else.

As stan says, drive a few more..........

The effects of body roll such as sliding off the leather can be offset by power, give it a try Twisted Evil

.Gbox was serviced once already by the stealer. My mech buddy just dropped the pan, found it free of pondscum, filter OK, and the oil quite nice. He refilled with synthetic ATF so I suspect that the gbox is OK.
.Injectors and compressor, I will check, thanks for the tip.
.Steering column motors work fine.

I do read and speak French, but I dislike it. It is not concise. I assimilate English much faster. Thank you just the same! Reno, on assignment in France.
