decision made

Hi guys

I came on a while ago thinking of changing my 911 for a vogue and after a couple of months of debate have decided its time to take the plunge, a couple of questions

- what is the earliest/cheapest tdv8 you can/would buy
- what does the forum think of big miles
- i had a RR sport until recently too and the tyres only lasted 12 months and cost a fortune - do the vogues have similar issues?

I'm thinking my budget neeeds to be 20-25k but will spend less if it gets me a decent tdv8 - which apparently is the engine to have??

MPG on daily gentle driving?

look forward to thoughts and buying my car

Hi Stokie,

I made the change from a 911 (997 C2S with factory aerokit) to a FFRR S/C (admittedly via a BMW 650i) and can tell you that you won't be disappointed.

Of course they are chalk and cheese when it comes to performance and driving dynamics, but there's something about the FFRR that always puts a smile on your face and gives you a sense of occasion.

When I sold my 911 (which I did for financial reasons as I was going self-employed) I was heart broken and never thought anything would feel as special. The FFRR feels MORE special and I love it just as much, if not more, but for entirely different reasons.

I just popped down to the supermarket to get some coldies and there was a small traffic jam in the centre of town. I could see people sweating and fussing and generally getting hot and bothered, and I'm sat there in complete comfort with the air con on, my air cooled seats gently cooling my backside, some summery tunes sounding awesome through the HK system and I was in no rush at all.

I think that's one of the biggest contrasts for me...in the 911 I quite often found myself in 'spirited' runs with other fast cars, I always felt a little bit like I had to drive it like a sports car as that's what it was. In the FFRR I waft about at my own speed, never really in a hurry, but I still know that if I drop the hammer I have a 400bhp V8 there to ease me along!

The TDV8 is what I set out to buy, but (IMO) you'll need at least £25k for a decent mileage and spec one (go for the Vogue SE if you can).

When I was looking I did some sums based on my annual mileage and factoring in the cost difference between petrol and diesel and, as I could pick up the equivalent Supercharged petrol for circa £5k less, I'd need to own the car for 3.5 years before I was better off (purely on a purchase price + annual fuel basis). So for me, it was a false economy and once I heard the SC petrol V8 I could only buy one car!

Of course there are other factors to the argument (the S/C will depreciate faster and be less desirable especially as fuel costs continue to rise), but all I'd say is 'do the maths' before you rule out a petrol.

Have fun hunting. This forum has a bunch of very knowledgable people on it. Thumbs Up Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Big Cry thought so but didnt want to say anything - if i remember you hadnt owned long

I too feel as if I have to drive everywhere with the loud pedal pressed - sports exhaust windows down - come on Very Happy

but its now 7 years old and a potentially expensive piece of kit so shes got to go

always fancied a rangerover the sport i had was good but not the same - ive been driven in a few vogues and they do seem special

any members comments on the difference between a sport and a vogue

My favourite quote on the difference was a Land Rover dealer who said (not to me, this was something I heard and committed to memory!) -

"The Range Rover Sport is for those that aspire to be. The Range Rover is for those that are."

'Nuff said.

Best comment is simply don't get a Sport, don't consider a Sport and forget about a Sport.

Different car altogether Thumbs Up

Completely agree with Joe's comments about feeling like you have to drive a fast car fast all the time.

I took my E55 into work yesterday and did 15 miles cross-country in 13 minutes. The E55 wasn't running all that hard (for the E55), but it was a spirited drive all the same on empty roads very early in the morning.

By contrast, I did the same drive this morning in my RR at the same time in the same mood in 18 minutes.

I just felt more relaxed and less inclined to hurry. My wife has noticed the same when she drives both. Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

A man ain't truly been insulted until he stands buck naked in front of a woman and she didn't even notice. Or care.

I don't consider a FFRR to be a car, especially when supercharged. Mine has the nickname: Super-awesome intergalactic battle cruiser Wink
