upper tail gate removal

any advise on the upper tail gate removal , the hinges, struts, trim, wiper motor etc are easy but the wiring harnes looks a pig , where it passes through into the roof space above the head lining you would expect to find a multi plug but the isnt one .
following the loom inside the tail gate it passes down the side pillar , looking at the plugs for the various connections you would struggle to pull the back through the pillar and possibly get them stuck , then you have to get them back in the replacement tailgate , i can only assume the harness is installed before the glass is bonded in
there is 23 wires in total i want to avoid cutting the loom and joining the wires but this may be the way forward , if the connections were soldered and heat shrunk it wouldnt be a problem but was hoping there is a easier way
when the l322 was on the production line fitting the tail gate couldnt have been that quick going by what i have found , the loom in the head lining runs towards the front and also down the right hand pillar
any advise on this welcome Smile 1990 3.5 v8 defender

There is a tailgate up on fleabay at the moment without the glass fitted and it looks like the wiring harness goes from top to bottom on the righthand side and then the glass is bonded in after - so I suspect the wiring must all plug in inside the headlining. I maybe wrong - but have a look at the description/photo :- Item number: eBay Item No. 300704501633

yes had a look at the one on ebay and it confirms what i said the wiring must have been installed prior to the glass fitment . had a look at the harness in an l322 at my local breakers with the head lining removed and there is no multi plug the wires go into the main loom.
so its gonna be cut and solder/heatshrink the wires or pull the wires and plugs out and hopefully get them back in
need to replace my tailgate cos its gone a little rusty along the bottom l/h edge also has a small dent and a marked glass ,nothing much but niggly little things that i know are there
got the replacement tailgate which is the right colour and flawless on everything else
,so i will have to make a decision what option to take 1990 3.5 v8 defender
