A later unit from a BMW will allow you to play MP3's, which along with a BM54 radio firmware upgrade would display the tracks on the screen.........

Now you have it out, can you take the cover off and release the cartridge. The cartridge with its silly flimsy CD holders is probably the problem. You may be able to rescue the unit? .

I'd have offered too daveo, love taking things apart, they don't always go back together in the same way though, and usually bits left over .

thats 1 of the things on my list is to take out my cd player as it worked for about 2 songs and has never work since
