I think on single trips with a reset at the start, then higher figures are possible.

For example, reset as I leave work, and a gentle run home could see me back at the door with the 24 mpg on the dash ( BMW 4.4 )

However, after a week, its back down to 17. Laughing

So single trip runs can be misleading imho. V8 or else ...

According ti the Computer in my tdv8 i get 20.1 long term average, that includes a bit of motorway, a fair bit of towing, and a lot of town driving.

If i reset the second trip then i can get the journey average. Usually about 20 no matter what i do.

Just cost me over £140 to fill it Whistle
Did treat it to super derv though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well happy. The car feels like its got a bigger engine, is more smoother, and I'd swear it's more quiet now cold, than it was previously when warmed up.

The mid range torque is immense. So much nicer to drive.

<snip>

Yes there is more torque about, going through the old GM box, but I figure if I can get the same performance as I did before, without having to rev it as high, its got to be better all round.

I'd be saving up for a new box if I were you, as you say the box is maxed out at the engine's std torque setting and now you've upped it massively. Revving it high is not the issue - the torque is produced when you bang the throttle down at a low rev range.
sorry to be negative as I totally appreciate what you mean about the car needing the extra oomph but BMW screwed up big time by speccing this gearbox and using a blind eye won't obviate physics I'm afraid Sad

BMW had trouble with their own cars the X5 i am on about, the torque convertors used to let go at fairly early miles.

only fix is a £2k upgrade for a heavy duty item, of course they denied their was ever a problem!! Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Well. I know what you are saying.........I understood the issue with the gearboxes was not torque related, but the valves etc wearing out their outer casing as it was made from "softer" casting than usual.

When I was on about less reving, I was talking about the engine wear........not box.

If it's gonna blow, it's gonna blow !!

On a run i can easily see over 25-26mpg and the last run from huddersfield to manc saw me at just over 31mpg there and back with a full set of wheels and passanger on board and full load of fuel.

TBH the car does WORSE on normal diesel compared to BIO and i can feel the power drop Sad

avg about town with an avg speed of circa 30mph according to the computer gives me between 19-21 Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I average normally about 25mpg overall. I have managed over 30mpg on 300 mile round trip on main roads. My computer is pretty accurate as I have done tank to tank fills and compared the results a couple of times. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE
