TMC not functioning?

Try as I might I cannot make the TMC function work on the satnav of my 2003 car. I've followed the handbook but since it's poorly worded I've ended up a little confused. It asks me which station I want to use for TP/TMC but since the car is on the move then I can't decide, it should be the radio that decides what is appropriate I'd have thought.

Any ideas please and has anyone had a similar problem? The satnav CD is a 2008 up-dated official version.

Thanks,

How's your Clasic FM reception? TMC info is only broardcast by them, I can't get it here so no TMC but as I get toward Glasvagas it kicks in. 2008 MY Supercharged

Hi all first post!

Soupdragon,

I tried everything on my previous RR, 2003 vintage, all to no avail.

However I believe I found out why. Apparently the computer in the RR pre 06MY could not take all the TMC messages that were being generated in the UK and so crashed all the time. So LR disabled it in UK vehicles by not putting the required code on the Nav Disc data block. So if you could get hold of a disc with the correct code in the data block, you could have the TMC working. I understand they do in some other countries.

I never managed to get hold of one though. I tried buying an update disc from Navteq, they agreed with the code not being on the disc but were not able to provide me with one that had the code. They thought LR had not paid a licence fee for that model.

Hope that's useful, how true it is I can't be sure.

Thanks both for the replies.............Stocky I think you may be right although it seems odd that the instructions appear in the handbook (which is for the home market). Oh well, I try not to use satnavs unless I really have to.

I'm on a '56 plate and my TMC uses Classic FM as its source. I had a problem recently where the TMC icon on the Sat Nav had a red cross through it as though it wasn't receiving data, so went to dealer who did a 'hard reset' on it and all OK again. Don't knwo whether this info helps at all but just thought I'd let you know Smile
