06MY Removing Wing Mirror Case - help... Now fixed

I've tried following the instructions on the wiki with no success.

The 06MY has a larger puddle light that that shown in the wiki, even with brute force I've been unable to separate the housing from the front ring or the mirror.

I manage to get a small bit of movement but if I life the housing any higher it's going to crack.

Is the something different on the newer models that i'm missing?

oops, meant to post in Technical, mods please can you move for me??

Can nobody help? I wanted to get stuck in this weekend but don't want to smash it to pieces.

Even my LR contact was unsure.

I've just replaced an entire wing mirror case on 2006MY. I have the old one in the box in the garage. I will dig it out and have a look at the puddle light. Will update later.

Thanks guys,

My need to remove the cover stems from the wing mirror glass only adjusting up and down and not left and right.

I have a pet spider living in the mechanism so I suspect the cogs are just clogged up with webs/nests.

Any help would be gratefully received.

GJOB,
Well i have just cut the broken front case off to have a lookand i have to agree with Cam-Tech-Craig. The rim of the wingmirror is attached with 3x small reverse philips security head screws and there are 2x large plastic plugs coming from behind the metal of the motor. These are 'rounded off' holding the rim in place. I have taken some photos of the deconstruction.
Having kooked at the wiki it is a completely different construction.
Hope it helps..

I finally got round to fixing my wing mirror motor so thought it appropriate to close this thread Wink

It was very simple in the end, the motor had failed (nothing related to spiders nests!!!). So, 2006MY:

The simple steps were:
1. Gently pull the wing mirror glass away from the housing - it just clips off
2. Remove the 2 screws hold the small plastic cover on the right hand side (for a drivers side mirror)
3. Use a Torx bit to remove the centre screw and a flat head screwdriver to unclip the motor from the metal casting.
4. Unplug the connector.

Time required: 5 minutes Exclamation

Refitting is the reverse.

I was very surprised how reasonably priced the motor was (under £30) although it was covered under the warranty Thumbs Up

With thanks to DavidP for the photos and explanation to separate the rear case from the front frame - whilst it wasn't necessary in the end I did it any way to understand how the thing was put together.
