Had mine replaced (4.4tdv8) in March for £625 parts and labour.
That was based on the labour calc from the warranty company and the garage did say it took way longer.

I have a 2012 in Orkney Grey with (I think) style 18 wheels.

Sounds like google has given you US gallons - they're smaller than UK so that's part of the problem.
70l is just over 15 uk gallons - making the actual result more like 20mpg (or just over).
