Hmmmmmmm didn't think of that. Sticking rear caliper. As for the hand brake I did think that.

I had a binding rear caliper, check your pads tomorrow! Apparently it's a common problem on 2005 cars. If it's on the n/s the pads will disappear without trace or warning, since the brake pad wear sensor is on the other side! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining! |

Well it's deffinatley coming from the rear drivers side wheel. Some real heat coming from that wheel once I've stopped driving. And a strong smell of burning. Car vibrates like mad now when driving. I'm gonna take the wheel off next week and have alook see what I can see. If it is a stuck caliper does it mean the calipers knackered or do I just 'unstick' to put right?

Could someone confirm that the rear brake pad wear sensor on 2008 TDV8 is on the OFFSIDE as just found my offside rear pads are down to metal with badly scored disc - no warnings at all so assumed sensor was on NEARSIDE at rear. Hot metal particles also seem to have badly marked the N/S alloy wheel. So, new discs/pads and alloy refurb because of no warning signs. All other discs/pads seem fine! |

This is why I hate sliding calliper brakes so much , such a shoddy cheep design and when things start to stick you get uneven wear on you pads and you could be oblivious to impending doom . That and the fact that the Land Rover warranty will only ever pay for one calliper

Thanks for your advice. It seems the sensor must be on the inner OSR pad and guess this hasn't worn sufficiently for the brake warning to operate so must be a siezed calliper. Made a real mess of the disc and wonder why this wasn't picked up during indie service and MOT (carried out before I bought the RR) 1,500 miles ago. Will certainly watch this weakness carefully in future. Is it possible to free off the slide pins or is a new calliper needed? |
