Thanks for the responses. I have just lubricated up the shifter mechanism and cycled it through PRND as suggested. Unfortunately now the key is completely stuck in the lock, and won't come out with any amount of jiggling!!! |

Have you tried your foot hard down on the brake pedal at the same time as the gear selector is in the P position to release the key ... ====================================

Thanks Joe90, you were spot on! Lubricated up the (green) cable and it all seems to be working fine now. |

On the gearstick end of the cable there is a large fork (that stops your shifter moving when your key is out). If your key sticks again lift the leather gear surround and lift or push down the fork and it should release your key. If this works then look at the image again and to the right of the red arrow (pointing down) is the fork i mentioned with a pin that should move freely (with a spring one side and a retaining clip the other). The fork should move independently of the pin, you will probably find your fork and pin have corroded together so you should hold the end of the pin (the spring end) with some grips and lever the fork in the opposite direction spraying with WD40 or alike and keep working it for a while until loose...

The ignition key became progressively more difficult to remove from my 2005 Autobiography. Examining it I noticed it was not returning fully to the at rest position. The local dealer was quoting £850 to replace the locks. I found this thread and gave it to the village garage with the car (key completely jammed in now).
